By ComicList Batman: Battle for the Cowl #2 of 3 DC Comics Daniel & Florea This story draws obvious comparisons to the 90s storyline called Knightfall. Dick was stepped over as Batman by Jean Paul Valley. This series has someone else running around as Batman while Dick wavers about whether he wants to be Batman or not. The problem is that this story isn’t nearly as long and not nearly as deep in terms of character development. In Knightfall, Jean Paul was given time to meltdown while Dick was given time to decide about how he could claim the cowl, though he eventually couldn’t overcome Valley or Bane. In this story, in a matter of a couple of pages Dick switches his stance on the whole Batman idea. It just feels so forced.   [read the full post]

By ComicList Batman Battle for the Cowl DC Comics Daniel & Florea Though not really seen here, Two-Face and Penguin are having a turf war. The crime world has come down to two sides. However, Batman’s villains in Arkham are busted out and are blackmailed into joining a third team. This third team is first set up to destroy what’s left of the Batman legacy. Dick and Tim are at odds. It seems Tim wants and needs a plan in place for either a new Batman or for Dick to stand in as one. Dick, however, has taken a path of quiet darkness. He’s not the quick-witted rocker who took over for Bruce in the Prodigal arc over a decade ago. Now, he’s acting like Bruce Wayne after Jason Todd died. Coincidence? I think not.   [read the full post]

By LaRevolucion44@aol.com (Rokk Krinn) Catwoman then asks what if she cleans up Gotham. What then? Will Batman then retire? Batman answers that cleaning up Gotham will never happen. Catwoman slips free from the cuffs. Catwoman says that her parents were killed, too. Catwoman says that Batman is not alone. Catwoman then disappears. Batman just stands there. The first story would be the "death" of the Golden Age Batman. The second story would be the death of the Silver Age Batman. This could be the metaphysical interpretation of how DC "killed" the Golden Age Batman to give us a much different Silver Age Batman. And then years down the road, DC "killed" the Silver Age Batman to give us the much different post-1986 version of Batman.   [read the full post]

By ComicList While the economic crisis still didn’t seem to have any noticeable effect on the periodical comics direct market in November, the unplanned absence of several major titles certainly did. In the case of DC Comics, the offenders were - take a deep breath - Final Crisis, All Star Batman, Justice League of America, Green Lantern, Final Crisis: Revelations and Superman/Batman; and Batman, which was meant to have two issues out, instead of just one. Consequently, in a drop that mirrors the one back in September, the average DC Comics periodical sold a whopping 13% fewer units than it did in October. The publisher’s DC Universe line continued to be dominated by the blockbuster events Final Crisis and “Batman RIP” and their numerous spin-off and tie-in titles.
