This week on Michal’s DVR… By Michal Legend of the Seeker – “Mirror” This was just a fun - albeit filler - episode and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Erika wrote up a great review earlier in the week, but I just had to add how much I loved the final scene.  Bruce Spence (Zed) played it wonderfully.  Sure it was over-the-top, but I needed the laughs! Chuck – “Chuck vs the Ring” What more can I add to my earlier review?  I’ve watched the episode about 8 times now and I still rewind the Mr. Roboto scene every time.  I just don’t understand why this show isn’t a bigger hit. Bones – The Beaver in the Otter If only this episode had featured the Sweets/Brennan exchange after the interrogation (“You’re not gonna believe me anyway. You’re just gonna say I guessed, so have it your way. I guessed.”), I would have been happy.  However, the episode offered some great Booth and Jared (who by the way I still think of as Michael from Roswell with unfortunate hair) scenes were perfect and I think added something to their relationship.  While I knew Booth wouldn’t run off to India, I liked how the show handled the situation.  The whole episode put me in such a good mood, Arastoo Vaziri didn’t even get on my nerves.  I loved his exchange with Booth about “difficult science” and especially his interactions with Hodgins.  He’ll never be my favorite of the rotating assistants, but I have a better appreciation for him now.  I just realized I didn’t mention the case at all that involved a corpse found in a college mascot, but it just didn’t really grab me, even with the presence of Jesse from Kyle XY.  However, it was an interesting case if not a bit obvious. Of course the piece de resistance was the final dine & dash scene with Booth and Bones.  Emily Deschanel nailed it and David Boreanaz was his usual awesome self.  Her waivering (“No, I can’t. Really? No. Are you serious? No. Ohmygod!”) before running out of the bar was hilarious and perfectly executed.  I love these two together! Supernatural – “The Rapture” At 10pm last night when the episode concluded, I wasn’t too sure about it, but upon further thought I do think I like the episode and where the show is headed.  Clearly this was an exposition episode meant to set up the final two episodes of the season, but it did answer quite a few questions about Castiel and set up some awesome stuff for next week, most importantly Sammy in a box!  While I’m digging the darker feel of season 4, at the same time I feel like I need to down some Prozac after every episode.  I totally sympathized with Dean’s admission that he’s tired.  In a way, I am too.  Although I am stoked for a Sammy vs Dean showdown that appears on the horizon.  That’s going to be legendary! I loved Cas from the beginning, but Misha Collins was excellent this week.  The differences between Jimmy and Cas were definitive, especially the scene after Cas takes over Jimmy and tells Jimmy’s daughter that he isn’t her daddy.  Heartbreaking to say the least.  And don’t even get me started on the final Dean/Cas scene (“I learned my lesson while I was away, Dean. I serve Heaven, I don’t serve Man. And I certainly don’t serve you.”), which has me really interested to find out what Cas was going to tell him in the first placed. At the same time, Jared Padalecki was acting the hell of out Sam.  It’s been great watching his journey this season.  It makes me think of the description of Crowley as “an angel who did not so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards” in Good Omens.  His lack of subtlety when explaining Jimmy’s situation or simply saying “So, here’s your car” to Jimmy’s wife as she is trying to say goodbye to her husband for the last time, is not the Sammy we’ve known for the last few years.  It’s a side of Sam I honestly never thought we would see, but after that and last week’s interactions with Adam, Sammy has definitely lived up to the trickster’s warning last season that “whoever said Dean was the dysfunctional one has never seen you with a sharp object in your hands.”  Sammy is getting scary and if the previews are anything to go by, it’s going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. For all the bleakness, though, the episode was also littered with excellent Dean one liners including: “Talk to Ginormo here.” “You can’t even kill stunt demon #3.” “Was it a refreshing Coke?” “Good plan.” “Nobody bats 1000.” Well that’s my list.  Did I miss your favorite moment?  Do you agree with me? Were we watching the same shows?  Leave your comments below! This entry was posted on Friday, May 1st, 2009 at 9:42 pm and is filed under Bones, Chuck, Legend of the Seeker, Supernatural. One Response to “This week on Michal’s DVR…” Kate says: May 2, 2009 at 11:41 pm Sam going dark side will be a rough ride all the way around- the scenes from the previews for next week are intense. I have been waiting for Dean to be ready for revelation and to give himself over to God- he has to , if Sam is gone - dead or demonized- Dean will need something to help him go on. I have a feeling the angst has just begun…..Bring on the angst! Bones? Well I thought the case was again only so so but I loved Booth and Bones and their mad dash- while he discreetly left money on the bar. Am hoping we are done with the last of the body swapping for a long time on LOTS- though shirtless Richard is always welcome to make an appearance Leave a Reply Click here to cancel reply.
