By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) This team doesn't have any glaring weaknesses other than the age of its stars and possibly depth at the center position. Last season there were questions about the point guard spot, but Rajon Rondo showed us that he is quite capable of being the starting point guard on a championship team and Eddie House answered the questions at the back up in spite of being put on the shelf for a part of the playoffs in favor of Sam Cassell. This season, Gabe Pruitt is expected to be able to contribute at the point and Sam Cassell is back for insurance. The age of the three stars was questioned last season and we all saw how that came out. There was talk about moving him to shooting guard but he will have to beat out another former Celtic, Wally Szczerbiak and Sasha Pavlovic for the spot and that won't be easy. Delonte's best bet right now is to sign the qualifying offer and play his best this season wherever they play him, and then go on the market as an unrestricted free agent next off season. By David Friedman(noreply@blogger.com) I have repeatedly mentioned one element that I think should be a bigger part of their half court offense: a screen/roll play involving Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy pointed out during game two that the Celtics have struggled to defend that action and late in the fourth quarter we even saw the Lakers successfully run a screen/roll with Bryant and reserve center Ronny Turiaf. Not surprisingly, in game two the Celtics did well in the three key areas that I mentioned: Paul Pierce seemed to be fully healthy and he was very productive, the Celtics got a lot of easy points in the paint--particularly by reserve Leon Powe--and they slowed the Lakers' transition game to a crawl for most of the night. The opening sentence is an interesting comment on the state of the NBA today: Young NBA fans may find it hard to believe, but pro basketball was once a team game - not the showcase for flashy individual talent it has become. Wright's 57% free throw shooting is cause for concern as is his mechanics from outside 8 feet. However, the touch he shows close to the basket gives hope that he will be able to extend his range over time and improve upon his free throw percentage. By FLCeltsFan RealGM has a draft preview for the Celtics. Unlike most, they feel that our drafting has been suspect. Their drafting is suspect. For the most part they’ve found good talent in the draft, but the players have either been dealt or become injury-prone. The fifth pick in the Draft may not get them a Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, but it should allow them to take someone worth getting excited about in Beantown. They suggest that we target Yi, Noah, or Horford. I have been leaning toward Noah, myself. The kid has a winning mentality and is going to have the work ethic and drive to be the best he can be in the NBA. I don't like Yi because of his lack of defense. I also like Hawes and Brewer.   [read the full post]

By FLCeltsFan The Sun Sentinel has a rather caustic article that puts forth the fact that the tree teams accused of tanking last season ended up slipping down to the worst possible scenario for them in the draft. The article goes on to be very anti-Celtics. Should Boston's Danny Ainge be rewarded for trading for Sebastian Telfair at the cost of Brandon Roy? Should Memphis' Jerry West be bailed out after dispatching Shane Battier and throwing money at Brian Cardinal and Damon Stoudamire? And enough of the argument about how Boston and Milwaukee weren't tanking but merely were injured, and therefore shouldn't be discriminated against in the lottery. By FLCeltsFan There are several very good veterans reportedly available. There are several very good players who will be available to us in the draft. I have a lot more faith in Danny's drafting than I do in his trading. Mocks are coming out with some having us taking Yi and some Noah. I like what I have read about Noah. He knows how to win. He is working very hard to improve himself and I think he will push himself to be the very best he can be and think he would be a good fit for us. Yi's defense is suspect and there are questions about his age so I am not sold on him yet. Hawes might be a possibility. Or if Mike Conley was available we might even go for a point guard.
