By ComicList The artwork is brilliant. Even the flashbacks seem to have their own specific touches on them to set them apart from the regular parts to the issue. It's funny, but you can see how Bucky still is Captain America on the junior scale when you watch Steve doing his thing back in the past.

Captain America, as Winter Soldier in this issue, find himself outsmarted and in a heap of trouble. We get a taste of what the mad scientist has up his sleeve and things are looking fairly dire for Bucky and friends. It’s a great issue that gives a pair of excellent cliffhangers. The issue opens with Bucky the Winter Soldier infiltrating the lab of the crazy doctor, Chin. He cuts his way through the thugs until something goes wrong. While the action is heavy in the beginning we get a glimpse into the struggle that Bucky is having with his multiple identities. Has he really embraced being Captain America? Is that even possible if he hasn’t let go of the Winter Soldier? Or is he really just dressing like the Winter Soldier for Chin’s benefit? [read the full post]

By ComicList This mini arc wraps up but does it really end? Captain America aka Bucky doesn’t really succeed in his mission but he does gather some intelligence that leads him into a much larger plot and story. The comic is a very good story, but the fact that the payoff is really a reveal and not much of a resolution is a bit of a downer. Still, this is a great read month in and month out. The issue deals with two stories. In the present, Bucky is trying to stop Batroc and the man with no face from stealing whatever it is that they are stealing. The second story deals with Bucky’s past as the winter soldier when he was sent to kill the Chinese scientist and ran into the man with no face guarding the scientist. Captain America #43 Marvel Comics Brubaker, Ross, Laguna & D’Armata Another element to this story is a series of flashbacks to World War II. This is setting things up for the larger arc. While we don’t have the full plot and context of these flashbacks, they are interesting to remind us how Bucky interacting with Steve. It’s a good way to introduce some old as new and make use of the dead Captain America. It’s a good issue, but not great. It’s a breather issue. It sets things up and reminds us of the current state of the new Captain America. I like the direction and I like the potential, but this isn’t an arc like the ones with Red Skull and Sharon. We’ll see if it can build momentum. [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn(noreply@blogger.com) Now that Brubaker’s monster story arc involving Lukin/Red Skull has concluded, I am curious to see what Brubaker has in store for us next. I enjoy Bucky as Captain America and I am looking forward to getting to see Bucky finally accepting his destiny and embracing his role as Captain America. I am confident that Captain America #43 will be a quality read. Let’s go ahead and hit this review. I like that Bucky constantly thinks about what Steve would have done or if Steve would approve of what he is doing or be proud of him. Brubaker always gives the proper respect to Steve by having Bucky admit that Steve was a better fighter or that Steve was stronger or that Steve was faster. This is a smart way to try and win over comic book readers who might still be upse... [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn We cut to the SHIELD Helicarrier where the Falcon is upset with Tony for making Bucky the new Captain America. Tony retorts that he is simply honoring Steve’s wishes to carry on the Captain America tradition and to help save Bucky. Tony then suggests that the Falcon go help Bucky with his new role as Captain America. Falcon says that he will work with Bucky. Brubaker ends Captain America #37 with a fantastic hook ending as Sharon realizes that the man in Arnim Zola’s lab may look and sound like Steve Rogers, but he is clearly not Steve Rogers. I imagine that this is the Grand Director who was the 1950’s Captain America who had his name legally changed to Steve Rogers and had surgery so he looked like Steve and had the same voice as Steve. By Rokk Krinn Now, after reading Captain America #34, I was sure that this issue was going to win the Che for best read of the week. I loved the debut of Bucky as the new Captain America. Brubaker handled the passing of the shield superbly. The ending was phenomenal and this issue simply reinforced my beliefs that this is one of the best titles on the market from either Marvel or DC. But, then I read Super Powers #0 and just like Eli Manning engineering a last second win in the Super Bowl, Ross and Krueger managed a last second win against Brubaker. I know that many people would select Captain America #34, but the fact is Project Super Powers #0 was simply the best issue that I read this week. Captain America may be one of the best titles, but for this one week, Captain Ame... [read the full post]

However, he can honor Steve and make Steve proud of him with his own style of being Captain America. I have to say that I think Bucky makes an awesome Captain America. Brubaker is handling Bucky’s transitioning into the role of Captain America perfectly. I like that Brubaker has Bucky continually emphasis that he is not Steve Rogers. That he cannot act like Steve and do the same things that Steve did. That Bucky has to do things his way in order to honor Steve and to make him proud. [read the full post]
