By Kevin(legacysword@gmail.com) In Alaska we see the Red Skull and an AIM leader in the AIM headquarters with the guy tells the Red Skull his psychologist think that the Red Skull has an inferiority complex with never being able to live up to his father's (Steve Rogers) reputation. The guy then says they are 46 hours away from the Cosmic Cube being completed and then they will be able to rebuild the world how they see fit. I also got to give a lot of credit for creating such a great version of the Red Skull that, while still maintaining the same sinister personality as his 616-counterpart, feels like new take on the character. The Ultimate Red Skull is a refreshing take from the Nazi character he is in the 616 universe. Being the son of Steve Rogers has added a new level to the threat he po...   [read the full post]

By Kevin(legacysword@gmail.com) Though I have largely ignored Dark Reign unless it pops into Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, or Captain America I have actually been digging these The List one-shots. Other than the horrible Dark Reign: The List – Avengers these one-shots have been all very good, at least the ones I have read. They have all done a nice job setting up what is going to go on in Siege as well as those respective titles. Slott did a great job capturing the Spider-Man/Norman dynamic. Even though with his new status quo Norman has faced the biggest heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe he still considers Spider-Man his greatest adversary. Even though other superheroes like Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Reed Richards can pose a bigger threat to his current reign, Spid...   [read the full post]

The Unspoken shows some classic Marvel villain influences in his design. Overall: Another solid issue. Slott continues his run of classic style Avengers stories. Recommended to Avengers fans. By Kevin(legacysword@gmail.com) With Iron Man 2 out next year and Natasha Romanoff appearing in the movie it was inevitable that everyone's favorite Russian super spy would get her own mini-series. I am not too familiar with Natasha's character outside of Ed Brubaker's writing her in Captain America. This mini-series is penned by Paul Cornell who has done some fantastic work for Marvel. I especially liked his work on Captain Britain and MI: 13 so I am expecting to enjoy his interpretation of Black Widow. Now on to the review for Black Widow: Deadly Origins #1. By Kevin(legacysword@gmail.com) Fraction was also able to show that even with all that happened between them Thor, like Captain America, is one of Tony's closest friends and one that he trust with his life. With the Marvel Universe supposedly entering the "Hero Age" after Dark Reign this can be seen as the first step into the next phase of the Marvel U. Also this action by Tony can become the lightning rod that brings the hero community together to fight Norman and his reign with the upcoming Siege event. By Rokk Krinn(LaRevolucion44@aol.com) The main roster for the Super Hero Squad consists of Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine and the Falcon. This show also stars Ms. Marvel who is the head of SHIELD. In addition to the core cast there are also going to be tons of cameo appearances from other characters in the Marvel Universe. I did like how the Hulk and Wolverine get into a clash near the beginning of this episode. This was a nice nod to their comic book past. We get another silly quick moment when Reptil and Wolverine defeat the Wrecking Crew and gain possession of the fractal. Once the fight is done we cut to the side and see Iron Man, Falcon, Captain America, Hawkeye and Silver Surfer cheering Reptil. Each hero has a letter painted on their chest and they letters spell out “Reptil.”   [read the full post]

By Tenzil Kem(noreply@blogger.com) Ed Brubaker's Captain America is the best ongoing comic today. Starting from issue #1, Mr. Brubaker has been telling a rollicking adventure story that has all of the elements of a mainstream success. It is very accessible, having multiple jumping on points. There is as much a focus on the title character's relationships and development as there is on superheroics, fight scenes and supervillians. All of the plot twists in the story push the story forward, nothing has been a swerve. This title has even survived the death of its main character, and shows no signs of having, or needing his resurrection anytime soon.Secret Invasion at least had a promising premise. By noreply@blogger.com (Tenzil Kem) Why hire James Robinson on a Superman title (Adventure) and then take Superman away from it. That would be like hiring Alex Ross to paint the JSA, and all of a sudden changing the status quo on the title to the All Star Squadron. They will do a great job, but why have the talent lined up and not give them their shot. The Secret Invasion: War of Kings one shot did so many things right, so many things that Secret Invasion itself did wrong. Most important to me, is that it was accessible. I am a total stranger to the cosmic part of the Marvel Universe, and writers Abnett and Lanning provided some of the smoothest exposition ever.   [read the full post]

I also liked Steve’s self-deprecating comments in response to Lior gushing over the tales that she has heard about the great Captain America.
