By Matt Moore There's a lot to be said about the Grizzlies' 102-82 win over the Mavericks, which snapped a 13 game losing streak to the division "rivals." By Doc319@yahoo.com (David Friedman) The final game of the quintupleheader featured two Western Conference teams with similar records but vastly different roster compositions; the veteran laden Mavericks are hoping/praying that they can put everything together to make one more Finals run, while the youthful Trail Blazers hope that this season they will make the first of many consecutive playoff appearances. The Mavs are led by 2007 MVP Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 24 of his game-high 30 points in the first half. Nowitzki's reputation has probably never completely recovered from Dallas' collapse in the 2006 NBA Finals and shocking first round upset loss to Golden State the folowing year but by any objective measure he is still one of the league's top players. The Mavs broug... [read the full post]

By David Friedman A lot of people doubted Houston without Yao Ming and Phoenix with Shaquille O'Neal and I correctly said that both of those teams would be fine. However, the people who are doubting Dallas now are correct. The Mavs were not doing so great even with Nowitzki. They have some talented players but the idea that Josh Howard is as valuable as Nowitzki is going to rapidly be revealed as erroneous. Kidd is a great leader but it seems that there is some kind of power struggle between him and Coach Avery Johnson--not so much that they don't like each other personally but rather that they have different ideas about how to play. Johnson wants to slow the game down and call his own plays, while Kidd is more effective in an uptempo game. The race for the last two spots i... [read the full post]

By David Friedman It is easy to forget that just two years ago the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs contested an epic playoff series that was not decided until overtime in game seven. For those of you who have forgotten--or who think that Dirk Nowitzki always comes up short in the big games--Dallas beat San Antonio 119-111 in that seventh game and Nowitzki led the way with 37 points and 15 rebounds, shooting 11-20 from the field and 15-16 from the free throw line. We may get to see this matchup again in this year's playoffs and if Thursday's game was a preview of coming attractions then this showdown will once again be a treat to watch. [read the full post]

There is little doubt that Kidd is magic. With him on the floor, Jason Terry is faster, Jerry Stackhouse jumps higher, Erick Dampier catches more passes and Dirk does a nice impersonation of his pal Steve Nash. Late in the first quarter, Kidd started a fast break with a long pass out of the back...

By FLCeltsFan Here are comments found around the Mavs' message boards during their game with the Celtics. It is always interesting to see what the other side is saying. Without KG the Celtics do not have any low post defensive players. The Celtics are giving this to the Mavs. Pierce getting bailed out every time Rondo off rebound ??? ARE YOU **** KIDDING ME ????? Dirk with the unclutch non box out on Rondo. Really disappointing loss. Well, it's time to go after Jason Kidd, -_-. With the Celts team defense, they will be in every game they play. So, will Rondo's playground moves stick in the NBA? If so, why don't more players do them? The pass fake forced Dirk to foul him in the fourth. [read the full post]

By FLCeltsFan It looks like Stoudamire is going to sign with the Spurs. The Mavs are trying to make a deal for Kidd. The other top teams are working on deals to make them better. The Spurs have to do something as they are really not playing well of late. But, you can never count them out. They have a way of pulling it all together when it counts. The Celtics still need a PG and rumors have it that Danny is still trying to get Cassell. If the Celtics can get Cassell, it would be the final piece to take this team to the championship. He is a savvy veteran PG who could give us a very quality 10-20 minutes a night behind Rondo along with giving Rondo some good mentoring. Celtics Blog points out that it will come down to what Cassell wants more, a ring or money. I say at this point in his care... [read the full post]
