By theothermurdockpapers@gmail.com (Christine) I think the clues have been there all along that the Hand are on recruitment campaign. They've been testing Matt's friends, and "turning" the Black Tarantula and the White Tiger. While I was somewhat surprised that the big twist consisted of offering Daredevil the leadership of the Hand, my surprise wasn't so much that it went counter to what we've seen before, but that the Hand would actually do that. Or rather, that Brubaker would write a story in which the Hand do that. Granted, this may all make sense further down the line, but right now I have to wonder what strange recruitment strategies they employ or why Daredevil of all people would fit their job description. And, if they bothered doing their research on this guy, they would also know tha...   [read the full post]

By theothermurdockpapers@gmail.com (Christine) Bottom line: I'm neither entertained nor intrigued by this issue. It does nothing for me. I think it was Chichester who said that, to him, Nocenti's Daredevil seemed more like a comic which happened to have Daredevil in it than a comic about Daredevil. I'm paraphrasing here (and it's not as if Chichester is beyond reproach), but that way of looking at it might, in part, explain why Nocenti's Daredevil has been so hard for me to get into. In this issue, Daredevil is not even acting like himself, becoming instead only an agent of some other force, which makes this even more problematic. This issue is about as exciting as a public service announcement set against the implausible backdrop of New York being overtaken by demons. This is not why I read Dar...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Both of Brubaker’s reads were impressive. Captain America #35 was another quality read. However, it lacked that something special in order to win the Che. Daredevil #105 was flat out awesome. This month, Daredevil was actually better than Captain America. Daredevil #105 gave us an incredibly satisfying ending to the Mr. Fear story arc. I absolutely loved seeing the villain actually win at the end of a story arc. Thor #6 was another quality read. But, its slow pacing is what kept it from winning the Che. Ultimate Spider-Man #119 was a joy to read. This issue showcases everything that is enjoyable about Bendis’ writing. I wish Marvel would utilize Bendis on more titles like Ultimate Spider-Man that suit his talents rather than titles like New Avenger...   [read the full post]
