By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) The Good: Daredevil #111 was another good read. Brubaker does a fine job kicking off this new story arc involving Lady Bullseye. Daredevil was a well crafted story. Brubaker cranks out some strong writing by delivering a technically ...

Suffice it to say, I am still stunned that Brubaker was attached to such a poorly written comic book. I am a big fan of Brubaker and have loved his run on Captain America and his run on Daredevil. I find that Brubaker always delivers such a consistent and well crafted issue each and every month. [read the full post]

Brubaker always delivers a technically sound read on Daredevil. And I expect nothing less with Daredevil #109. This current story arc has grown on me and has certainly exceeded my initial expectations. Still, Fraction and Brubaker did a great job on together on Iron Fist. Hopefully, Brubaker and Fraction can generate that same kind of magic and spruce up Uncanny X-Men which has easily been Brubaker’s weakest title. And since most fans love Fraction, I am sure his arrival on Uncanny X-Men will provide a nice sales boost for this title. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) For the most part, the Secret Invasion tie-in issues continue to surpass the story that Bendis is giving us over on Secret Invasion itself. I expect much of the same with Mighty Avengers #16. In this issue we will learn how Electra got replaced by a Skrull. Considering that I have always felt that Electra should have stayed dead after Frank Miller had Bullseye kill her, I have no problem with her character getting killed of again. Let’s go ahead and hit this review for Mighty Avengers #16. Electra locks horns with both Skrulls. The Daredevil Skrull displays all of the powers of the various X-Men. After a pretty vicious fight, Electra manages to kill both the Wolverine Skrull and the Daredevil Skrull. [read the full post]

Anytime Doctor Doom comes calling, you know you are in for a wild ride. Also from Millar comes Marvel 1985 #2. I loved the first issue of this title and expect Marvel 1985 #2 to be just as good. However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Captain America #39. Yeah, what a surprise. Captain America is Marvel’s 800 pound gorilla and whatever week this title is published, it is almost a lock to be the Marvel comic book that I am most excited to read. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Creative Team Writer: Ed Brubaker Art: Michael Choi What makes the current state of Uncanny X-Men so disappointing are the inevitable comparisons between this title and Brubaker’s work on his other titles. While Uncanny X-Men surely is not a bad read, the fact is it is clearly inferior to Brubaker’s excellent work over on Captain America, Daredevil and Criminal. I always thought that Brubaker was a strange choice for a title like Uncanny X-Men. I just do not think that Brubaker’s talents are a good match for Uncanny X-Men. Personally, I would much rather see Brubaker drop Uncanny X-Men so he could stay on Iron Fist which has been a better read than Uncanny X-Men. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Jerry says he had friend that grew up here. The small man then says that they are cleaning out the home to turn into a big hotel. The small man asks Toby if he likes comic books because when they cleaned out the house they found a bunch of them. Toby and Jerry look at the box of comics and notice that it contains valuable issues like X-Men #1, Hulk #1, Spider-Man #1 and Fantastic Four #1. The small man looks at Jerry and says “Fantastic Four?” My enjoyment of Marvel 1985 #1 also stems from the fact that I was a little kid in 1985. This is the Marvel universe that I grew up with and loved dearly. It just feels right to see this era of Marvel heroes and villains. I am looking forward to seeing the various heroes in all their 1980’s glory. [read the full post]

Now, I will concede that Daredevil has tailed off a bit as of late. For a while there I would have said that Brubaker’s Daredevil was as impressive as his Captain America story. However, Brubaker seems to have lost a bit of his focus ever since he resolved the monster storyline involving Vanessa Fisk. Still, Brubaker’s Daredevil remains a quality read that is better than your typical comic book. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Creative Team Writer: Brain Michael Bendis Artist: Alex Maleev I have always liked the original Ghost Rider and it is great to see Bendis reaching deep into Marvel’s continuity and link a modern character with a relatively obscure character from the past. DC always does a great job reaching back into their deep and rich history and using older characters as the foundation for new characters. I’m glad to see Marvel doing the same here. Alex Maleev delivers plenty of solid artwork. Even though I like Maleev, I still would not have tapped his style of art for this storyline. I prefer Maleev on darker, edgier and moodier titles like Daredevil and Moon Knight. [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Mighty Avengers continues to be a much better read than New Avengers. And that trend should continue with Mighty Avengers #12. We get treated to a Nick Fury spotlight issue with Mighty Avengers #12. We should learn what role Nick Fury is playing in the battle against the Skrulls. Let’s go ahead and hit this review. Creative Team Writer: Brain Michael Bendis Artist: Alex Maleev I like Maleev and there is no doubt that he is a talented artist. I loved Maleev’s work over on Daredevil. His style was a perfect match for the offbeat and dark story that Bendis was weaving on Daredevil. However, I do not like Maleev’s art on a title like Mighty Avengers. I prefer a much more dynamic and detailed style of art for Marvel’s mainstream flagship super hero team title. [read the full post]

Echo tells Wolverine to not hit on her again. Wolverine says that he isn’t hitting on her. That she will hit on him. We cut to Echo out jumping from rooftop to rooftop and meeting up with Daredevil. By Rokk Krinn Both of Brubaker’s reads were impressive. Captain America #35 was another quality read. However, it lacked that something special in order to win the Che. Daredevil #105 was flat out awesome. This month, Daredevil was actually better than Captain America. Daredevil #105 gave us an incredibly satisfying ending to the Mr. Fear story arc. I absolutely loved seeing the villain actually win at the end of a story arc. Thor #6 was another quality read. But, its slow pacing is what kept it from winning the Che. Ultimate Spider-Man #119 was a joy to read. This issue showcases everything that is enjoyable about Bendis’ writing. I wish Marvel would utilize Bendis on more titles like Ultimate Spider-Man that suit his talents rather than titles like New Avenger... [read the full post]

Brubaker has made this title one of Marvel’s strongest titles and a consistently good read. The ending of the last issue was a real “Oh shit!” moment and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Man, we have so many choices for this as well with Ghost Rider #15, New Avengers #34 and Punisher: War Journal #11. All of these titles are worthy of scorn since they have all been such pathetic reads for quite some time. [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn The last issue of Uncanny X-Men finally showed what Brubaker is capable of pulling off on this title. It seems that Brubaker has finally gotten his bearings straight on this title after giving us issues that were certainly not up to the same high standard that we have gotten used to over on Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Criminal. I’m glad that it appears that Brubaker has turned the corner on Uncanny X-Men and this current story arc is shaping up to be a rather exciting read. I’m sure that Uncanny X-men #490 will be a good read. Let’s do this review. Creative Team Writer: Ed Brubaker Artist: Salvador Larroca [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Amazing Spider-Man #541

By Rokk Krinn Creative Team Writer: J. Michael Straczynski Penciler: Ron Garney Inker: Bill Rienhold The reader already knows that Matt Murdock gets Kingpin freed from jail and all charges dropped in return for Kingpin exiling himself from America and promising never to return. We already know from the brilliant story arc that Brubaker gave us on Daredevil, that Kingpin is a broken man due to Vanessa Fisk’s death and the madness that gripped her up until her death. Overall: Amazing Spider-Man #541 continues JMS’ long string of rather dull reads on this title. Marvel cannot get JMS off this title fast enough. I really look forward to actually enjoying reading this title again. [read the full post]
