And what would Marinelli saying something controversial actually accomplish? I'd argue nothing. It was just like the groundswell of Lions fans who wanted Matt Millen to come out of hiding during the off-season. What would that have accomplished?

Millen lasted nearly eight years here, which was approximately 7.98 years too long. He was probably the most hated executive in his own city in modern sports history. (I'm not counting people like Art Modell or Robert Irsay, who moved their teams.)

As he's already campaigning for Detroit job through the media, would former Titan GM Floyd Reese be someone the Lions should look at to raise their organization up from the historic depths of the Matt Millen era? ...

Of course, Detroit was humiliated by Jacksonville last week, so maybe that's not the best example. By the way, is now a bad time to point out that the Matt Millen-led Lions never won fewer than two games during his reign of terror? ...

By Josh Zerkle Matt Millen finally got his ass canned last week. Lions VP William Clay Ford said he would fire Millen if he had the authority, and apparently someone important took note. The ownership likes Rod Marinelli, so don't expect him to leave.

William Clay Ford, Sr. purchased the team in 1964. Since then the Lions have played 10 playoff games, 6 of those in the Barry Sanders era. They have won exactly one playoff game Ford’s tenure.  That was in 1991 when they lost to the eventual champion Washington Redskins.
