Mad Men 3.12: The End of the WorldOriginal at Paul Levinson's Infinite Regress

By levinson.paul@gmail.com (Paul Levinson) We knew it would be coming. But the logical time was the Season 3 finale - which will be on next week. Instead, Mad Men surprised us with a kick in the heart tonight, which started as a cold day with no heat in the offices of Sterling Cooper, proceeded to too much heat being pumped out, and soon showed us the television in Harry's office, which told us it was November 22, 1963. What an episode. I'm looking forward to watching Dexter now - I could use a breather from the angst - a contest of serial killers would be relaxing. 20-minute interview with Rich Sommer (Harry Crane) at Light On Light Through The Plot to Save Socrates more about The Plot to Save Socrates... By Paul Levinson(levinson.paul@gmail.com) 1. Dexter and Rita getting married. Yes, there was a little blood at the end on Rita's white dress, but that was more symbolic than indicative of anything immediately dangerous. 3. Angel coming clean with LaGuerta about how his need for human contact led him to a prostitute, who has become the love of his life, that's ok with LaGuerta, too (which does make sense). 4. Dexter forgiving his father. 5. The two bad guys, Ramon and King the skinner, successfully vanquished. See also Double Surprise ... Psychotic Law vs. Sociopath Science ... By Paul Levinson(levinson.paul@gmail.com) The showdown on Showtime is coming to a boil, as Dexter and Miguel up the ante in the past two episodes of Dexter, 3.9 and 3.10. This happened because bigmouth Rita told Miguel's wife. Not that I have anything really against Rita, or I'm rooting for Miguel - certainly not, I'm in Dexter's corner - but, truthfully, I never thought Rita was right for Dexter (I was liking Lila a lot more last year), and I guess, yeah, I wouldn't mind if Rita were out of the picture. By noreply@blogger.com (Paul Levinson) It's easy to forget, amidst the fascinating ethical quandaries in Dexter's complex character - a serial killer we can love? - that Dexter the television show is also a first-class, tip-top mystery show. We have moved from the identity of Dexter's nemesis in the first year, to what Lila was really capable of in the second year, to ... Which means, what? That Miguel did not really want Dexter to kill her? Well, then why did he go through that charade? Because he is really out to nab Dexter after all, and Ellen is cooperating in this pursuit? Pretty dangerous game - let's say Dexter had gone off on his own and killed her? See also The True Nature of Miguel ... By noreply@blogger.com (Paul Levinson) Taking a moment out of blogging for this historic election, and calling Obama supporters to get out the vote, to write about last night's fine, tingling episode of Dexter - though, hey, it was good to see Jimmy Smits up on the stage with Obama and Bill Clinton at a Florida rally last week.... And last night's Episode 3.6 was presciently entitled "Si Se Puede" ... But Smits' character Miguel is much more than good, and he continues to be the fascinating fulcrum of this season of Dexter. By noreply@blogger.com (Paul Levinson) I knew there was something else, something more, about Miguel on Dexter - something more than his being another brilliant guy in law enforcement who might come after Dexter. And now, in the third season, it turns out that Miguel, well played by Jimmy Smits, is not just a DA with a passion for getting bad guys - he's a DA with the same kind of passion as Dexter. But this raises at least one big question: Dexter survived in the first two seasons by killing the two people who were so much like him. Will Dexter have to do the same with Miguel? By Paul Levinson(noreply@blogger.com) First, Jimmy Smits is on the show as an Assistant DA with a complex psyche and family including brothers. He plays great against Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan, who in this season also begins thinking more of family - not his father's and his, which is never far from his mind, but his own. Opinion: Four Gems from Showtime Get Nominated for Golden Globes//Dexter Contest Right Here!Original at Paul Levinson's Infinite Regress

By Paul Levinson I was delighted to find out the following today, in the Golden Globe Nominations announced for television ... Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama Michael C Hall, Dexter Johnathan Rhys Meyers, The Tudors Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical David Duchovny, Californication The face of television is changing, and very much for the better. Cable shows have three out of five nominations in several major Golden Globe television categories. And Showtime is clearly giving HBO a run for its money. All of this is great for the viewer. I'll be writing more about these trends soon. The Plot to Save Socrates more about The Plot to Save Socrates... [read the full post]
Opinion: Dexter 2 Episode 11: Deb's Belief Saves DexterOriginal at Paul Levinson's Infinite Regress

By Paul Levinson They'd find Doakes, who knows Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher, and Lila - who, according to the coming attractions, is informed of Dexter's true inner demon by Daokes. She looks horrified in the clip - but will this revelation make her hate Dexter, or be drawn to him, even more? I'm betting Dexter survives (easy bet) and Doakes and Lila do not. I don't see how Doakes can live, and Dexter can continue, if Dexter does not want to confess ... And Lila - much as I'd like to see her on the show next year, I think she's coming to the end of her rope.... See also Dexter's Back: A Preview and Dexter Meets Heroes and 6.
