Q& A Eliza Dushku December 10th, 2008 TVG interview- Dec 15, 2008 Transcribed by Multipleverses This Dollhouse isn’t for kids. The new Fox drama created by Joss Whedon promises the same mix of thrills, chills and commentary on social ills as his previous cult series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. He came up with the idea over lunch with Buffy alum Eliza Dushku, who stars, “We were talking about my waking up every day and feeling like someone wants me to be a different person. Not just as an actress, but as a woman,” she says. We asked her to play nice and tell us more about the show.-Kate Hahn You were kick-ass vampire slayer Faith on Buffy and gave the dead a second chance on Tru Calling. Now you’re playing a doll? Echo is a “doll” or “active”. They are people who have had their own personalities wiped completely clean so they are basically human shells that can be imprinted with an entire new personality for hire, for the rich and powerful. So a doll can be programmed to be anything from a dinner date to an assassin? Sometimes I have four missions in one show. I love it. But Echo starts to remember who she was and wonders why she’s there and what’s going on and it becomes very dangerous for her. And by “There” you mean the dollhouse. Describe, please. We [ 20 or so "dolls"] eat, sleep, work out in this beautiful Zen-garden like dollhouse, but it has no windows and is underground somewhere. People say it’s an urban legend, but the actual dollhouse is a superpowerful, rich company that has stayed under the radar. Does Echo get into any serious scrapes? Tahmoh Penikett [of Battlestar Galactica] plays FBI agent Paul Ballard, and he’s been investigating the dollhouse for years. He and I just shot a four-page Muay Thai [boxing] , dirty fight scene- I still have bruises. You and Joss have known each other since Buffy. What is your working relationship like? He’s a big brother to me. I tell him crazy stories about my life and it pops up in the script. I was bow-hunting in Colorado which turned into the episode “The Target”. The show permieres on Friday the 13th. Are you superstituous? No. But mayber a lot of people are superstituous and will stay on the safe side and stay in and watch the show. Dollhouse premieres Friday 2/13, 9/8c, Fox. Filed under: Dollhouse Article tags: dollhouse eliza dushku interview
