Opinion: GAME THREAD #6: Timberwolves vs Warriors - Battle of the Bottom Feeders
Original at Golden State Of Mind
By Fantasy Junkie So many questions, so few answers: Is Don Nelson tanking already? Is John Wall that good? When is Stephen Jackson going to get traded? Can we trade for Chris Bosh even if he doesn't sign an extension? Will he even be any good playing for this cursed franchise? If you could trade all the Warrio...
Opinion: The 8 Top Warriors Excuses — and Why They’re Totally Bogus
Original at San Jose Mercury News
• Sat, Nov 7
By Adam Lauridsen “We need Biedrins and Turiaf” – Injuries are always the easiest excuse, but not all injuries are created equal. Nelson’s system has little use for Biedrins and Turiaf when they’re healthy (other than hauling down rebounds and blocking shots), so it’s strange to suddenly elevate them to...

By Adam Lauridsen It took the Warriors ten quarters of basketball, but just after the half Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, the five players running up and down the court finally looked like a team. Granted, it’s only start — but given what came before it, something to build on is precisely wh...

By Adam Lauridsen Around 5:30 Tuesday evening — roughly 24 hours before the Warriors tip off their 09-10 season — the Bay Bridge snapped. All the Warriors can do now is hope it’s not an omen. The Warriors, like the Bridge, have suffered nearly two decades of neglect in the wake of abrupt catastrophes. Many wi...

By Adam Lauridsen “It’s only preseason” is usually invoked against the Warriors’ ugly, losing performances in October. Far too often, however, we’ve seen them make the same October mistakes in January or April. For Thursday’s win over the Hornets, I’m hoping that for once it’s the positives — not the neg...

By Adam Lauridsen Stephen Jackson — Our captain may still be on the roster, but mentally and emotionally he looks like he’s already been traded. The box score captures his 1-9, 0 rebound line, but it doesn’t convey Jackson sitting on the floor following no-call contact on a drive as the Lakers went streakin...

By Adam Lauridsen In three weeks, the Warriors will finally take the court in Oakland for their first preseason game. It remains to be seen whether real basketball will put an end to the air of discontent currently swirling around the franchise — or only heighten it. When compared to last year, this off-seaso...

By Adam Lauridsen Standing in the way of the post-season goal are teams that have worked hard this off-season adding talent. Oklahoma City, Minnesota, and the Clippers should be significantly better. By Adam Lauridsen Monta Ellis — At the center of so many of the Warriors’ crucial issues — ball movement, speed of play, defense, team chemistry — sits Monta Ellis. By Atma Brother ONE Does anybody want to play for the Warriors?- I think Tim is giving Chris Mullin way too much credit (see The Mullin Myths: Chris Mullin made the Warriors a franchise players wanted to join), but it's still an interesting read if anything else. Will Jrue Holiday work out for the Warriors? By Adam Lauridsen So with season ticket renewal week upon us, I have to tip my hat to the Warriors’ strategy. Corey Maggette and Stephen Jackson are out-of-sight, out-of-mind. Anthony Randolph and Anthony Morrow are scowling and fighting every game to keep the Warriors respectable. And even Monta has gi...
Opinion: Polling GSoM: Was Robert Rowell right about overriding Chris Mullin's 3 year $39 million extension for Baron Davis?
Original at Golden State Of Mind

By Atma Brother ONE There's a lot of resentment within Warriors Nation towards one man for BD's departure from Clippers North (Golden State Warriors) to Warriors South (LA Clippers). Fairly or unfairly Robert Rowell has been demonized essentially for nixing Chris Mullin's 3 year $39 million extension...

By Adam Lauridsen Andris Biedrins - Andris may have been abused a few times by Bynum, but he returned the favor at the other end with some great moves attacking the basket. More importantly, he provided a steady rebounding anchor to the Warriors’ defense while Wright, Turiaf, and Randolph rushed at shoote...

By Adam Lauridsen How do you follow-up losing to the worst team in the NBA? How about losing to the team previously tied for the second worst record. By Adam Lauridsen Anthony Randolph - I’m personally willing to contribute a few bucks to Anthony Randolph’s fine for dunking over Yao, then letting rip with the scream and death stare. By Adam Lauridsen We get a point guard who can drive and kick, shooting guards who can shoot, Jackson anchoring things at small forward, Randolph cleaning glass, blocking shots, and pushing the ball at four, and Biedrins doing what he does best at center. Our bench is more than able, so we should be able to ke...

By Adam Lauridsen Without a true ball-distributing point guard, the Warriors must rely upon players capable of creating their own offense. Right now, they don’t have enough of them. I’d actually describe this as a carry-over problem from last year, when the team became stagnant and Davis largely gave up...

By Adam Lauridsen Saturday’s game was only available on NBA League Pass, but those who missed it were spared some of the NBA’s ugliest basketball in the first half. The Warriors relied primarily on put backs, broken plays and trips to the foul line to claw their way to 52 points. You can blame some of the uglin...

By Adam Lauridsen Don Nelson will abandon small-ball - Whether by choice or necessity, I think it happens this year either immediately or after the likely trade of Harrington. By Brett Edwards Up north where the Golden State Warriors play, it won't be pretty either, at least for the first few months of the season. Opinion: The Best Failure Ever?

By Adam Lauridsen Jackson: 34 mins - This is five minutes off Jackson’s pace last season. Jackson may never admit that he was w...

By Adam Lauridsen Watching the Hornets make the Spurs look their age has been one of the more enjoyable scenes so far of 07-08 Playoffs. Original at 20 Second Timeout
• Mon, Apr 7
By David Friedman The Bottom Line: Will somebody please pull the plug on the "Stephen Jackson should have been an All-Star/is the best player on the Warriors" campaign? Baron Davis leads the Warriors in scoring (21.9 ppg) and assists (7.6 apg). Monta Ellis is averaging 20.1 ppg on .533 field goal shooting this season and in the last four games (including this loss) he increased those numbers to 23.8 ppg and .575. Meanwhile, with the Warriors' playoff hopes in serious jeopardy, Jackson--who has the same scoring average as Ellis but the worst field goal percentage (.406) of any player in the Warriors' main rotation--scored six points on 3-11 shooting from the field (including 0-6 from three point range), grabbed one rebound, passed for eight assists and committe... Opinion: Mavericks Follow Correct Prescription, Run Warriors off of the Court
Original at 20 Second Timeout
• Thu, Jan 3
By David Friedman Anyone who visits this site regularly knows that I have repeatedly insisted (most recently in this post) that teams should not be afraid to run against the Golden State Warriors and that the Dallas Mavericks could have avoided their upset loss to the Warriors in last year's playoffs if the Mavericks had pushed the ball up the court instead of trying to slow the game down. These truths were once against confirmed in Dallas' 121-99 win over Golden State on Wednesday night. Dirk Nowitzki scored a game-high 29 points on 9-16 shooting, adding eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots. Nowitzki had a game-high plus/minus rating of +25. Five other Mavericks also scored in double figures, including Josh Howard, who had 19 points and a gam... [read the full post]
