June 25, 2007 Billie Joe Armstrong may just be one of the hardest working men in the music business. Pinhead Gunpowder, a side project led by the Green Day frontman, has set a release date for its first new music in five years. The group will issue a yet-to-be-titled EP on July 22nd. The disc will come on seven-inch vinyl and feature three new songs, tentatively titled “West Side Highway,” “On the Ave” and “The Anniversary Song.” The last Pinhead Gunpowder EP, a collection of singles called Compulsive Disclosure, came out in 2003. The band played some California shows in February, at which it premiered the new tunes and announced the upcoming EP. Meanwhile, Armstrong and his Green Day cohorts are said to be finally getting to work on the follow-up to the band’s last “proper” album, 2004’s American Idiot. Green Day toured last month as ’60s-style garage act Foxboro Hot Tubs, the name under which they also released an album called Stop, Drop and Roll!
