Heroes Promises It’s Coming But This Week Doesn’t Deliver November 18th, 2008 Recap and review by Kate Blake Admin Multipleverses.com This week felt like a filler episode for me on Heroes. Lets start with a recap and talk about the key points as we go. Last week which was a rather strong episode linking back to the past and the Heroes glory days ended with Arthur Petrelli swooping in and mind wiping Hiro after killing the bushman painter. He stops when Ando sees him and tries to stop him then Arthur sees a big rock painting with an eclipse. He zaps out and Ando is left with a very confused Hiro. Ando and  Hiro spend the episode teleported back to Japan where Ando tries to guide Hiro who doesn’t seem to have any memories past the age of 10. They spend most of the episode at a bowling alley eating waffles. Anyone else miss badass Hiro who came back to save the future? This was just kind of ok to me. Lots of haha Hiro is acting like a kid and Ando is patronizing him bits. In the end they are in a comic book shop going over the latest 9th Wonders comics which show an eclipse coming. COMMENT: Who is writing these now? This was Isaac’s series, how can someone else be continuing them without his special gifts? WARNING PLOT HOLE! Nathan and Traci arrive at Pinehearst looking for a confrontation with big Daddy. Commentary here: Anyone else think Pinehearst sounds more like an old folks home or a cemetery than their cover of being a biotech company? In all of my 20 plus years in the biotech field I have never known of a biotech company with such a funereal sounding name. Pinegen or Pinearex or Pineomics would all work better. Don’t the guys who write Heroes live in Los Angeles? Ever read the business pages? There are tons of biotechs in southern California that they could look to for how biotechs are named. Back to the story. Nathan sees his father and is stunned but wisely does not get too close. Traci is accomodating and allows the men time alone.Arthur is very Vader-esque with this whole I am your father and we are meant for power bit. Blah blah blah talking about mom, the future, dad’s plans and manipulations for Nathan. Nathan is not interested and you can see he is creeped out by monster dad. End result is Nathan decides as he is leaving that he needs to see mom- and tells Traci to head back to Washington- instead she goes to Arthur and says she can deliver Nathan to him, she is all about the power. Ho ho ho! Wonder how long till she is sharing his bed? Not sure which of the other two lesser Petrelli stories was more boring but for action I would say Matt and Daphne visiting Angela to get her out of her coma wins. Matt and Daphne bore me. Daphne is a liar. Matt is a putz this season. He gets into Angela’s head and then Arthur shows up as Daphne, Daphne realizes he is hurting Matt and enters the dreamy realm and tells Matt she loves him. Didn’t I say this was BORING? Matt breaks free with Angela doing some of her own manipulating of Arthur. Meanwhile in NYC- Peter and Claire have left Pinehurst and are at his apartment where he is cleaning up, he wants her to take off and be safe and stay sweet and innocent. She says no she will protect him. They argue and the bad guys show up- it is Claire’s other big dumb uncle energy ball guy and Knox the fear guy. Claire gives Peter a start and then faces off with the guys. Her line to them was a highlight in this episode- “Didn’t you hear I’m the defensive player of the year?” With this she leaps out the window to the street below just ahead of Peter. They go underground and are arguing instead of trying to go anywhere…when the dynamic duo show up. Now the most shocking part of the episode happens next- get ready for it! Claire faces the guys who tell her they are looking for her not Peter ( Arthur has figured out Claire is needed for Mohinder’s creepy experiments to work- another boring side line in this episode) . Ok wait for it—- Peter uses an ability we have not seen in a long time….he opens a gas main and taunts the idiots into using their powers and setting everything on fire so he and Claire can escape. OMG! Peter has a brain! Final Petrelli story- and this was the one good one in a very boring night. Arthur has told Gabriel the key to controlling his hunger is his empathy- that was what he used to make sure Peter survived being blasted out the window. Sylar and Elle are locked in a big room together and she is his test subject. Gabriel has a fondness for Elle and in his new touchy feely zen mode he doesn’t want to hurt her and forgives her for her part in making him into Sylar the killer. She blasts him with lots of energy peeved about him killing her father. In the process Gabriel loses his jacket, then his shirt until he is facing her sweaty, shirtless and showing off his washboard abs. Whoah! Did not know that being a pyscho killer was such a workout…. Finally he is able to get through to her and take her power but leaves her with her powers, just taking on her overload so she is not in constant pain. They end their bit testing things out and getting cozy. This was where most of the FX budget for the epi was but what made it work was the chemistry between Elle and Gabriel. Final bit: Arthur, Mohinder, Hiro and the Petrellis have all figured out the eclipse is coming and that there is something important coming. In Texas Claire , Peter and Nathan join Matt, Daphne and Angela. Claire realizes that special thing that Sylar saw in her is what the bad guys need to make the formula to give anyone abilities. Meanwhile the bad guys all have a confab at Pinehearst with Arthur, Traci, Elle and Gabriel and the muscle- they are all waiting for the big eclipse. Meh- in the word just inducted into the dictionary thanks to the Simpsons -this week was a big let down over last week. I give this a 2.5 out of 5 with the last half point thanks to Zach baring his lovely bod. I do like how he and KB play off of each other as opposed to the Daphne and Matt story which I don’t buy. Next week things start being reset with the eclipse. I certainly hope we see the storylines reset. And soon.
