Heroes- Villains Episode Summary, trailers for next week November 11th, 2008 By Kate Blake- Admin MV Heroes got back to basics this week- by this I mean focus returned to our core characters and provided some solid linear narrative that connected this season’s disparate storylines to the very first season and some of our favorite moments from that season which was the one that people initially enjoyed and tuned in for. The episode begins where the last one left off- Hiro is in Africa and while Ando looks on the African painter gives him a bowl of hallucinogenic goop that allows Hiro to take a spirit walk like Matt did when he was in Africa. Hiro does not see the future- he has to see the past to understand when things changed and what were the critical moments that have led to where things are today. This week is all about the Petrellis and all things Petrelli where they know it or not! Mohinder is again our narrator which establishes the tie back to the previous seasons. We see a big party at the Petrelli manse - the same one from season 1 and the big family brunch when Nathan was doing the political thing. It is his parent’s wedding anniversary and Angela and Arthur seem blissfully in love. They practically slobber on each other- making everyone uncomfortable. At the party Linderman takes Arthur aside- he is concerned about Nathan and his pursuit of Linderman’s businesses. He warns Arthur that he will be exposed in the process- the men talk and Arthur says he will try one more time to convince Nathan and if he doesn’t- they will kill him. The interesting part of this exchange is that whereas we have always seen Linderman as the threat and the bad guy in our scenarios- truth is he is completely defferential to Arthur and seems enthralled with him. We find out quickly enough why this is. Arthur can get inside people’s heads and control them. He can wipe memories and speak to them without speaking. This remindes me of Emilie Rose’s character Tess on Roswell- her mind warps were useful but in the long term not good for the folks being warped. We find out this happens with Arthur and his power too. Arthur and Linderman talk about the plans for New York being set ( remember that whole blowing up the city thing?) and plot and scheme on that end. Meanwhile- Elle and HRG are on a job for the company. They have been sent to study Gabriel aka Sylar. He has only killed once but has been busy tracking down other people with abilities. Elle walks into his watch repair shop and blasts the rope he is trying to hang himself with. We see that Gabriel truly hates what he is becoming and had real remorse at this time. She gets herself into his life and gets him to spill. He did not see her initially use her powers so has no clue what is going on. This is the shy man we saw talking to Dr. Suresh before he grasped his powers to their fullest and went on his murder spree. Elle likes Gabriel and does not like lying to him. But she does as the company orders and sets things up so that she brings over a random guy with powers to his place. Gabriel can’t control himself and we see him go into his finger zapping mode where he cuts the guys head open and off camera plays with his brain. Elle is back in the van with HRG and disgusted that they made him do this and anything he does from here out is THEIR fault. HRG comments that wow- she really liked him. Elle doesn’t say much but is shaken. Anyone else guess what has to be coming? I sense Elle and Sylar getting together at Pinehurst in the near future… Last bit with Elle and HRG has him heading over to a cab “My ride is here” . We see Peter exit the cab and HRG hop in the back- with Mohinder at the wheel. Nice flow into the first season footage again. Meanwhile in other Petrelli news, Peter is graduating from nursing school and dad won’t go to the party. Nathan tells dad once again he is not backing off from Linderman and we see the truck run Nathan off the road, the accident Nathan escaped by flying for the first time and leaving his wife Heidi to be paralyzed in the accident. Everyone is upset , Nathan is a mess and accusing Linderman , Arthur is suprised and can’t figure out how Nathan survived. He is ready to try again. When Angela overhears him he does his mind warp thing and she forgets about it. CLIP from this week’s episode with Arthur Petrelli Later Linderman comes to Angela and tells him she can’t let Arthur do this anymore- power has corrupted him and he will kill Nathan. He heals Angela and she remembers everything. Next thing we know Angela is chopping stuff for a soup. At dinner that night she and Arthur are sitting and eating- he compliments the soup and she taunts him some. He can’t get into her head and is surprised. We see the Haitian emerge from the shadows and then Arthur grabs his gut. Angela has poisoned his soup. How very Roman Empire! Before they can dispose of Arthur- Nathan walks in and insists they call the hospital. At the hospital a doctor walks out telling them Arthur is dead- massive coronary. Angela insists on immediate cremation. Behind the curtain- Arthur is on life support, a quadriplegic thanks to the poisoning, he talks to the doctor with his mind and the doctor tells him he will find a substitute corpse and help him get away. Thus how we saw Arthur in the bed in his first appearance this season. In other news- Meredith and the big bald energy ball throwing guy are shown knocking off a convenience store. We find out- he is her brother! So now Claire has another not so cool uncle. Eric Roberts is back as the Company man sent to bring them in. He tells Meredith that if she agrees to become an agent she doesn’t have to be locked up for good. She is not happy about this. They go together on a training run and when they return when she goes to lockup the guy they have brought in, she sees her brother in a cell. They have told him the same thing- become an agent we will be nice to you. She knows that nobody will do this with her dumb brother and plots their escape. They siblings get out of the Company lockup in Odessa ( its the Primatech Paper Company!) and hop a train. Eric Roberts has followed them but brother hops off and he catches Meredith as her brother sets the train on fire. Roberts asks Meredith why she hates the company- she tells him it is because they killed her baby girl Claire years before when they came looking for her. He shakes his head “That’s what they told you…” and lets her go.  End sequence with Claire running into the burning train to pull the firemen out. Episode wraps with Hiro waking saying he must warn Angela and Peter Petrelli that he is still alive! When he looks over and their spirit guide kindly African drug pusher is dead- his head ripped off his body- and low and behold- here’s Arthur! He takes Hiro’s head in his hands and says “I hear you’ve been dreaming about me” and Hiro screams. Preview for next week- talk about the Eclipse from episode 1 that saw the Heroes powers get activated and that another Eclipse is coming. My rating: 3/5. Well this week was focused and I liked the continuity with earlier episodes. The back story on Meredith I am guessing will have some tie in to something. I did like her brother saying he was jumped in the alley by an invisible man- yeah Claude Rains reference! Overall this week worked because it was about our core characters - I am really tired of the constantly expanding universe of people I just don’t care about. I have stated I really don’t care for the Matt and Daphne thing- she does nothing for me- just another pointless blond on this show. Hiro and Ando need something more to do than just voyage through time and space. Learning about big bad daddy was cool- was not expecting the Linderman connection to be what it was. Overall- this week was better but the show still has a ways to go to get me back on track as a believer. I dvred it and watched after watching TSCC and the big Terminator shoot out live, and then watching one of the best episodes of Chuck- ever so this was again an episode of Heroes- but not particularly memorable.
