Celtics Edge Rockets in an Intriguing Early Season Encounter
1) Both teams pride themselves on defense and rebounding but the Celtics won in both of those areas, holding Houston to .391 field goal shooting (Boston shot .519 from the field despite off nights from Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett) and outrebounding the Rockets 46-41. Are the Rockets mentally and physically tough enough to truly contend with the league's elite teams? Every year the Rockets go out of the playoffs in the first round. Sam Cassell: A Student of the Game Evolves into A Teacher
Original at 20 Second Timeout
• Tue, Nov 18
By Doc319@yahoo.com (David Friedman) I have always enjoyed watching Sam Cassell, in no small part because it is apparent that he takes very seriously what Steve Young would call the "craft" of playing his sport. Relative to top NBA players, Cassell never possessed great size, speed or jumping ability, yet he has always been able to get off--and make--his shot in pressure situations. Cassell won two championship rings in his first two seasons as a point guard for the Houston Rockets and he later developed into an All-Star guard who played a big role in leading first Milwaukee and then Minnesota to the Conference Finals in 2001 and 2004 respectively. Cassell also guided the L.A. Clippers to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade as L.A.'s "other" team posted the second best... [read the full post]

By FLCeltsFan Here are comments found around the Rockets' boards during their game with the Celtics. The Rockets had an incredible streak and are to be commended for it. There isn't an asterisk on this one either. Yes, the Rockets didn't have Yao but the Celtics didn't have Ray Allen, either. And 10 of those wins were without Yao so it isn't like he just went out. Like the Houston fans, though, I questioned Doc keeping KG on the floor with less than 2 minutes left in the game and up 20+ points. KG is too valuable to the Celtics to risk an injury in garbage time. If the Celtics are in the west I don't think the'd be in the top 5. The record doesn't mean much. By David Friedman 2) The Houston Rockets are 13-12 this season with Tracy McGrady in the lineup and 1-3 with Tracy McGrady out of the lineup; this is McGrady's fourth season in Houston and his career numbers are even more telling: the Rockets are 139-82 with McGrady and 12-42 without him. Projected over an 82 game season, the Rockets would theoretically be 51.6-30.4 with McGrady and 18.2-63.8 without him. In plain English, with McGrady the Rockets are an elite team and without him they are one of the worst teams in the league. McGrady is rarely mentioned as a top five MVP candidate but if winning is the ultimate "value" one could make a case that McGrady is the most "valuable" player because his presence or absence has such a direct, immediate impact on whether or not...
