The comic book manages to entertain consistently, despite some of the writing, because of the artwork. There are a lot of characters and a lot of action and the comic book brings its best when dealing with the visuals. The Wolverine battle doesn't disappoint as Wolverine even attempts to bo...

Geek Goggle Reviews: Incredible Hulk #602
Original at Marvel Comics Headlines
• Sun, Sep 27
Incredible Hulk is making use of a good cast and a couple of guest stars to fill the gap left when the green guy exited. This comic makes for a good anthology-light book about some Hulk characters without getting involved with the red Hulk. Ultimately this particularly comic is subtle in plot...

Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk #6 REVIEW
Original at Marvel Comics Headlines

Here’s where the comic reaches. The ending is reliant on the belief that Wolverine really only wants the Hulk dead and not Bruce Banner. It’s a scenario that just doesn’t make a lot of sense. The two die no matter which one you kill so why would it make a difference if Wolverine kills the Hulk or Ba...
Hulk Broken Worlds #2 REVIEW
Original at Marvel Comics Headlines

All four stories provided some entertainment. I found each of them to reuse elements that we’ve seen a number of times in previous Hulk stories, such as, the Hulk fighting for the greater good of men, Banner living with monks, etc. However, each of the stories provides some level of insight i...

The Fury interrogation is a little out of place only because if Fury felt Wolverine would continue to be involved with Hulk and She-Hulk you would think he would just let him go and track him. However, the line of questioning and the near torture sequence is pretty darn entertaining.

The comic has some good comedy in it and a ton of sarcasm. The whole scene where Jen tries to convince Betty for the formula is loaded with snarky comments. The sequence with Captain America and Stark playing ping pong ball also has some elements of tongue in cheek humor right down to Iron Man sc...

The second story (Thomas & Trimpe) basically shows the double edged sword involving the love between Hulk and Jarella from the Microverse. This was a good look at their relationship and throws in a hook at the end. I liked this story as it left things open for more exploration and possibi...

The style of the series has been to tell the story out of order and it makes it very unpredictable and lot of fun. This issue is no different as it jumps around the timeline two or three times. It begins with Wolverine playing out some scenes in his mind, some of which have “happened” while others...

For those who enjoyed the much-touted “Planet Hulk” storyline from a couple of years ago, I’d like to suggest another tale in which Marvel’s Jade Giant took a wild ride out of this world. You’ll find it in a 1984-85 saga, contained in issues 301 through 313 of The Incredible Hulk.

The premise, while not clear in its roots, is simple: Hulk picks a team. The Hulk is confronted by Grandmaster who explains that the Hulk can win back his lost love, Jarella, if he wins a battle. Hulk is then allowed to select his team. The Grandmaster helps him pluck his teammates out of various...

The first story takes Green Hulk to new depths (or lows depending on your opinion) as he morphs into a Wendigo-Hulk. Apparently the Wendigo population is a knock off of zombies. They breed by biting people (or Hulks) and infecting them. Ms Marvel calls in some more help in pops the D-lister Bro...

The first story, a sixteen pager, has an early adventure of She-Hulk in Las Vegas at her college reunion. She bumps into Joe Fixit. At this point in the Hulk timeline Hulk was grey and working as a bouncer named Joe Fixit in Las Vegas. Apparently around this time She-Hulk thought Bruce was still...

The first story has Banner tracking the red Hulk. He ends up in Vegas. He finds Wendigos eating some people in a casino. He gets mad and turns into the grey Hulk. That’s right, a third colored Hulk. Hulk battles and Moon Knight joins in the fight. Eventually Sentry & Ms Marvel show up and the story ends with a cliffhanger as to their intentions. Banner was locked up by the government. He’s freed accidentally and is allowed to wander free with no one chasing him? Red Hulk also escaped SHIELD and yet, now, Iron Man and the rest have decided to just leave him alone and let him walk around unchecked? Why wouldn’t red Hulk want to continue to track down Banner if his objective is to kill the green/grey Hulk? Why does Banner revert back to Mr Fixit when he is in V... [read the full post]

Monster-Size Hulk #1 REVIEW

Finally, Peter David with art by Gabriel Hardman gives a mostly narrative tale about the Hulk’s encounter with Dracula. This story is beautifully crafted. Hulk has to deal with angry villagers, Dracula and his bride over the ten page narration. The story has excellent interactions between both Hulk and Banner with Dracula. The story had some hilarious moments when Dracula would watch in awe of Hulk’s indifference to some of the old tricks he likes to play, like opening and closing doors without the use of his hands. Hulk seems to enjoy his visit with the vampires, which makes it all the more funny. This was a fun read that captures the characters perfectly. The artwork gives a very serious tone to it, which made me wish there were more illustratio... [read the full post]

Hulk #6 Marvel Comics Loeb, McGuinness, Vines & Keith The issue opens with Hulk getting some potential allies approaching him in the form of Iron Man, Ares, She-Hulk and others. Hulk talks it over with them and opts to follow red Hulk seemingly alone. The others remain behind to assist the people of San Francisco with the damage left behind from the previous red Hulk fights. Hulk, proving he isn’t a complete idiot, talks things over with Rick aka A-Bomb and decides that the red Hulk has a weakness in that he gets very hot when he gets mad. Although Thor has red Hulk beaten, Hulk intervenes and uses his knowledge to show red Hulk who the boss really is. [read the full post]

Essential Rampaging Hulk TP Vol 01 REVIEW
Original at Marvel Comics Headlines
• Mon, Aug 25
Recently, while lucky enough to be enjoying Tulsa’s first DefCon comics convention in over a decade, I became luckier still. I stumbled upon Marvel’s Essential Rampaging Hulk Vol. 1. The Rampaging stories feed an ongoing feature in which the Hulk, his “sidekick”, Rick Jones and an alien woman named Bereet contend with extraterrestrials intent on subjugating Earth. While there’s not much deep character development, writer Doug Moench keeps the action and intrigue snappy and satisfying. His stories from The Hulk are a bit different, but interesting as they have the “feel” of the Hulk t.v. show of the same era, which was intentional on Marvel’s part. Oh but there is more. Green Hulk emerges from San Francisco Bay and decides he will team with the Blue A-Bomb to go after red Hulk. Iron Man shows up with some friends to help hunt down red Hulk. Both green Hulk and A-Bomb are idiots. They apparently have no brains. This regression of the Hulk from the intelligent monster we saw during Planet Hulk and World War Hulk is shameful. There is no explanation for it and it has totally destroyed any character development done in the last 5-10 years. And why is Iron Man willing to help green Hulk? Wasn’t Hulk in prison like two issues ago? Doesn’t anyone care that he isn’t in the jail underground anymore? Forget continuity with World War Hulk, this comic doesn’t even have continuity within its own arc! [read the full post]
