Clint yells “Wanda!” It was nice to see Scarlet Witch back with the Avengers and apparently sane. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are great Avengers who often seem to get lost in the shuffle. Pym is on amazed that they found the original Captain America and is in awe at the prospect of Captain America joining the Avengers. And since this is an issue of the New Avengers I do actually expect an Avengers related story that actually stars the Avengers. I know that may make me sound like a raving lunatic and a madman, but I stand by that statement. And that is the biggest flaw with New Avengers #47 and it has been a reoccurring defect on this title. I cannot be the only person who honestly purchases an issue of the New Avengers with the expectation of reading an Avengers story starring all of the Avengers. While I have little interest in Dark Avengers and I question the need for a third Avengers title, the good news of Dark Avengers is that it means that Bendis will be leaving Mighty Avengers to write Dark Avengers. I do appreciate that Marvel was able to crank out Secret Invasion without any real delays. The way that Marvel handled the shipping schedule of Secret Invasion and all of the various tie-in issues was impressive. And without a doubt, some of the Secret Invasion tie-in issues were quite compelling reads that overshadowed Secret Invasion itself.   [read the full post]

Iron Man flies Captain America out of the water. Captain America wakes up and asks where Thor, Wasp and Hawkeye are. Iron Man answers that he does not know what just happened and he has no idea where anyone is. Comments I have to admit that I just love the Ultimate version of Tony Stark. With the 616 universe Tony Stark practically unrecognizable after what Marvel did to him during Civil War and all of the subsequent stories, it is great to see playboy Tony in full effect. The Skrull Queen orders her solider to target Reed Richards. In turn, Captain America orders the heroes to target the Skrull Queen. Iron Man then tells the heroes that his armor is too badly damaged from the Skrull virus for him to stay in the fight. Iron Man leaves the brawlfest. (Of course. Captain America #43 is sure to be another strong read. Brubaker is so consistently good with this title. I am curious to see where Brubaker takes this title now that he has concluded his massive Lukin/Red Skull story. However, the Marvel comic book that I am least looking forward to reading is New Avengers #46. The Secret tie-in issues on Mighty Avengers and New Avengers have become practically unreadable as it is patently obvious that Bendis is just killing time until Secret Invasion concludes.   [read the full post]

I had to award the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the week to Mighty Avengers #19. Skrull-Vell then runs across some Skrull Super Soldiers and ends up kicking their asses. Skrull-Vell then blasts into space and sees the Skrull armada. Captain Skrull-Vell then attacks the Skrull armada. Skrull-Vell is overwhelmed and blasted by the big cannons from the Skrull ships. As Skrull-Vell falls to Earth he thinks about Mar-Vell’s life and states that “Mar-Vell was the name I was given.” Skrull-Vell plummets into the ground. Marvel Boy is on the scene and holds Skrull-Vell’s body. Marvel Boy has a confused look on his face.   [read the full post]

We are getting a total of 18 titles. This selection of titles is evenly split between Marvel and DC. I am going to have to take an extra long lunch hour today in order to get a head start on all of these comic books. I have little interest in Mighty Avengers #19. This looks to be yet another boring flashback Secret Invasion tie-in issue. With Secret Invasion lumbering on with little direction or purpose, the various tie-in issues on New Avengers and Mighty Avengers are rapidly dropping in terms of quality.
