We’ve seen the Hulk battle Iron Man, Betty Ross (the General’s daughter) pine away over Bruce Banner (aka The Hulk), Banner lament his Jekyll-and-Hyde condition, and Dr. Leonard Samson, Psychiatrist, analyze Bruce/Hulk, his behaviors and relationships. By ComicList Marvel Digital Comics (marvel.com), the online arm of Marvel Entertainment, is starting two titles, spinoffs of big-budget Marvel films. “Iron Man: Fast Friends” will focus on the relationship between Tony Stark, the man behind the iron armor, and Jim Rhodes, who comic fans know eventually becomes War Machine, a superhero in his own right. “Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files” will follow Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson in a cameo appearance in the “Iron Man” movie) as he investigates the angry green monster that Bruce Banner becomes. The series are both weekly. This issue barely contains Stark or Banner and doesn’t see one frame of Iron Man or the Hulk, yet the cover has both. We do get all the background on the Leader’s plot, which isn’t a bad thing. However, this issue seems lost in the details. It didn’t feel like it had the same pulse as the previous two. I felt like I was reading a different series. Leader, Leader and more Leader. This whole sequence uses humor, with Tony on his cell phone barking out orders, versus the madness of the Hulk. Finally, Tony jumps in his suit and the battle begins, but with a twist: Tony’s suit doesn’t have any armaments. Hulk smashes Iron Man into the ground. Iron Man lights Hulk’s hair on fire. Iron Man eventually gets the better of Hulk and shoots an electroshock into his eye. This gets the Hulk to revert back to Bruce Banner.   [read the full post]
