Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland ended a ten-year drought between solo albums on Monday (November 24th) with the release of his second effort, Happy In Galoshes. By recording the disc at his own studio and releasing it through his own label, Weiland gave himself complete creative control. He told us that he wanted to include as many of his personal influences as possible: “The whole idea was always just to throw in every influence that I’ve ever had, you know, whether it be Latin, bossa nova feel, and sort of mix it with a little modern, kind of cheap beat box kind of vibe, you know, with an ethereal touch.”
The singer said that much of the album was inspired by his personal turmoil during the last year. His brother died in 2007, his mother recently battled cancer, he split with wife Mary Forsberg, and he was dismissed by his previous group, Velvet Revolver.
Happy In Galoshes follows up 1998’s 12 Bar Blues.
Weiland will perform on the November 26th episode of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. He’ll also play some scattered radio festivals in December before kicking off a U.S. tour in January.
The singer has hinted in recent interviews that he may retire from the road to spend more time at home with his young children.
