The one thing you get used to in Kansas City is learning how to appreciate athletes who perform valiantly when there isn’t much at stake. Still, we should take special joy from Royals pitcher Zack Greinke, winner of the 2009 American League Cy Young Award.

Around here, among Royals fans in Kansas City, there’s been a persistent buzz about whether Zack Greinke would win the Cy Young Award as the American League’s best pitcher. Out there, in Zack Greinke’s offseason in Orlando, not so much.

Zack Greinke won the American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday, beating out Felix Hernandez after a spectacular season short on wins but long on domination.
