Opinion: AK1984’s dream thread - AKA Kevin Durant’s +/-
Original at The Site that's Saving the Sonics!

By Big Chris Sometimes +/- can punish players simply for being on bad teams, but this is more than that. Mavericks’ statistical expert Wayne Winston’s in-depth lineup data shows that every one of Durant’s key teammates — Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic, Nick Collison — gets better, in ma...

At the same age as Durant, some had better bottom line results than Durant -- LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard -- but they all had more veteran teammates. Young Kevin Garnett in Minnesota, on the other hand, had Thunder-style youth around him, and performed only sl...

The Greg Oden-Kevin Durant debate gave the 2007 draft some buzz at the top, but the rest of the lottery picks from that year are making it fizzle. Consider that in this year's T-Mobile Rookie Challenge game on All-Star Saturday, only four of the top 10 ...

The second Horford was drafted, he was already behind both Durant and Oden in expectation and popularity. Many people around the NBA had already written in Durant and Oden as the best players in the draft, and no one really gave anyone else a chance.

By Eric Williams Heading into the final quarter of the season, it seems the criticism of Kevin Durant has heated up. However, what you don’t get from those stats is when Durant is taking those shots. Is the shot clock running down and is he forced to chuck it up? Does Durant score in the clutch? And who’s there to...

By David Friedman I watched Durant play in the Summer League and evaluated his game objectively without resorting to baseless hype. I wrote several posts here describing exactly what I saw, including Durant Hardly Dominant as Summer League Concludes and Kevin Durant--Shooting Guard? I don't mean to pat myself on the back--well, maybe I do just a little bit--but if you read those posts you will discover that Durant's production as a rookie has been exactly what I predicted. Right now he is a one dimensional player and the only category that he performs well in is free throw percentage. Unfortunately, Durant cannot take advantage of that because he is not good at drawing fouls, which is something else that I correctly predicted despite the fact that he did dr... [read the full post]

Opinion: The Score, the Key Stat, the Bottom Line: Flash Recharges the Diesel, Celtics Romp, Durant Gets Schooled by Nets
Original at 20 Second Timeout

By David Friedman The Bottom Line: Durant shot his typically poor percentage but he did not jack up quite as many shots as he normally does and that is part of the reason that Seattle only lost by five instead of the nearly nine points that they have typically lost by this year. ESPN commentator Hubie Brown made some interesting observations about Durant during the game. Brown noted that Durant's 6-10 height should give him an advantage at shooting guard but because Durant has no back to the basket game that advantage is largely nullified; meanwhile, at the other end of the court Durant has to chase around smaller, quicker scorers on a nightly basis. Brown added that Durant must gain upper body strength and lower body bulk so that he can hold his ground on the bloc... [read the full post]
