After howls of protest by parental psychologists and allegations that it was prime-time child abuse, Kid Nation premiered in the US last night, the new reality show in which 40 children are abandoned in a ghost town for 40 days without parental supervision. Chris Taylor, Fallon, NV
In the end, "motherly" Morgan wins the gold star, heartsick Cody tearfully goes home, and grown-up host Jonathan Karsh can't resist the urge to comment on the kids' constant criticism of Taylor's leadership: "Taylor, you either have a very thick skin or you just don't listen." Taylor smi...

“Kid Nation” would never have been produced in New Mexico again anyway. Mr. Forman said he would have moved elsewhere in any event in order to find a different abandoned town to rebuild. But state law in New Mexico would almost surely have prevented a second production there.
Tom Forman, the executive producer of the series and ABC’s uplifting “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” implied two months ago that the reality show dishonesty of “Survivor” contestants and other reality shows inspired the idea for “Kid Nation.” • • •
The series plops 40 children, ages 8 to 15, in a "ghost town" south of Santa Fe for what is billed as a controlled social experiment. The kids are expected to fend for themselves for 40 days without adult supervision. Kid Nation is scheduled to premiere Sept. 19.

Kid Nation is hardly the first TV program (or group of stage parents) to exploit kids in dubious fashion. Indeed, at times the criticism became so shrill and myopic as to nearly engender sympathy for CBS. Yet if this doesn't qualify as a crime against television, nobody associated with it --...

I have been reading a little about Kid Nation since CBS announced their fall schedule back in May. At first TV viewers were upset because Jericho had been replaced on Wednesday nights by another "stupid" reality show. At least CBS had the decency to resurrect Jericho from cancellation. URL:
