Or at least it was fun to watch--I'm sure our little human lie detectors weren't having as much fun solving the cases as I was watching them do it. Anyway, as much as I'm growing to really like Loker and Foster (I wasn't sure at first, you know), it's still a pleasure to watch Lightman and Torres work together, and a got another chance to do that in Unchained. This week, it's Lightman and Torres off to investigate a supposedly reformed gang leader who's set to be released from prison, while Loker and Foster investigate the mysterious death of a firefighter. This is superb stuff. Lie To Me. Episode 2. "Moral Waiver" The gimmick is good, Tim Roth is fantastic but the stories are awful. Both of the stories in this second episode are stock tales from other crime dramas, with nothing added to make the retelling worth it. In each case it is obvious from the moment the story starts what the outcome will be. Watching this is torture. Tim Roth is not enough to save this pile of manure. The New York-based rocker, who competed on the CBS series “Rock Star: Supernova,” sings the “Lie to Me” theme song titled “Brand New Day.” His song “This Could Be the Year” is also being used to promote NBC’s upcoming series “Kings.”

Lie To Me's "lie-catcher" premise and flashes of visual wit put a twist on the detective-show genre. Whether it can stay fresh remains to be seen.
