from NBC: Another unique item is a demo tape an unknown performer named Madonna made in 1979 to send to record companies in an attempt to get a recording contract. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, it's just Madonna, her music unadorned by post-production magic and elaborate orchestration. The songs on the tape include "All My Love," "Hear Me" (a song that evolved into "Shine a Light"), "Simon Says" (which became the familiar "Love Express") and "Little Lost Boy." BRASILIA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Singer and pop icon Madonna will give a concert in Rio de Janeiro this coming New Year's Eve, Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes announced Friday.     The singer will perform at the famous Copacabana Beach, a mecca for more than 2 million partygoers every year. Madonna, who became famous with songs such as "Material Girl," arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Monday to request financial support for some social projects she is working on. On Thursday, the 51-year-old pop singer went to Sao Paulo to meet with a group of women in a poor community. Madonna talked about the positive values transmitted by the Kabbalah, of which she is a follower. Madonna will probably leave Brazil on Friday.

Traveling to Brazil this week with 23 year-old boyfriend Jesus Luz, Madonna, 51, squashed a report that she'll spend some time with Cristiane Regina da Silva, Luz's mom,  who is 14 years younger than Madonna. This follows Tuesday's claims by the UK's Daily Mailthat Madonna was "slightly on edge" about meeting her boyfriend's 37 year-old mother, a hairdresser who had Jesus as a teen and felt "uncomfortable" about his relationship. The pop star, 51, was in the African nation Malawi with her four children at the end of October for similar charity efforts. Visiting the orphanage where she found son David, 4, Madonna encountered a young orphan who said, "You are our god . . . Where could we have been without you?"
