By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) You and I will get along well then," Richardson replied. The Orlando Magic have offered Keyon Dooling a contract, but it likely isn't enough for him to return and back up starting point guard Jameer Nelson. They offered him a 2 year contract at the bi-annual exception of 1.9 million a year. He made almost double that last year and so it doesn't seem like enough to keep him with several other teams interested in him as well. The Magic desperately need point guard help as they only have Jameer Nelson at that position right now. They are also looking at bringing back Carlos Arroyo or going after Jason Williams, Anthony Johnson or Tyronn Lue, who reportedly is choosing between the Heat, Celtics and Suns at present.   [read the full post]

The Nets, Knicks, Cavs, Bulls, Heat and Spurs all have made some moves with 2010 in mind and according to the Sporting News these are the most likely destinations for LeBron to land. Rate Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat's Hard Knock Life

Original at 20 Second Timeout external link    Fri, Feb 29    via Boxxet Collection

By David Friedman The Lakers beat the Heat 106-88 on Thursday but the game was such a mismatch that it almost is not even worth analyzing; the Lakers jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first 6:16 and basically toyed with the Heat the rest of the way. You hear a lot of talk about executives and coaches who are doing bad jobs and players who are overrated but what is the deal with Miami? There is no way that this team should be this bad with a Hall of Fame caliber coach in Pat Riley plus Dwyane Wade playing alongside first Shaquille O'Neal and now Shawn Marion. Udonis Haslem and Jason Williams were starters on the 2006 championship team. Ricky Davis is a space cadet but he is also a bona fide scorer. There is some decent talent on the bench. By David Friedman Wednesday was quite a day in Phoenix. The Suns lost a double overtime thriller to the New Orleans Hornets but that game--perhaps the game of the year so far in the NBA--was just an afterthought to the news that the Suns traded Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat for Shaquille O'Neal. If you understand basketball then you realize that the two stories are actually connected, so let's look how some of the things that occurred in the game shed light on why the trade happened and what we can expect to see from the revamped Suns. The Suns are getting outrebounded by 5.9 rpg this season and they were without the services of both the traded Marion and the just arrived O'Neal but they caught a break versus New Orleans because Tyson Chandler was not...   [read the full post]

By David Friedman The Cleveland Cavaliers got off to a great start, hit a second quarter lull and then played very well in the second half to beat the Miami Heat, 96-82, in the first game of a Christmas Day ABC/ESPN tripleheader. As usual, LeBron James led the way, scoring a game-high 25 points, dishing a game-high 12 assists and also grabbing six rebounds. He received plenty of help, though: Drew Gooden had 18 points and nine rebounds, Daniel Gibson came off the bench to score 16 points while making four of his six three point shots and Anderson Varejao scored 15 points, snared seven rebounds and made all five of his shots. Original at 20 Second Timeout external link    Sat, Dec 1    via Boxxet Collection

By David Friedman The Bottom Line: The return of Dwyane Wade has hardly solved all of the Miami Heat's problems. For one thing, Wade is not yet playing at the level that he was before he got hurt last season. Another issue is Pat Riley's "subtraction by addition" offseason acquisitions of Ricky Davis and Smush Parker; Davis has no interest in playing any defense and did not contribute much offensively versus the Celtics (six points on 1-6 field goal shooting), while Parker has been playing terribly (.315 field goal percentage) and, to top it off, is dealing with some legal problems as well. By FLCeltsFan The officiating left a lot to be desired in this game. The worst call of the game was when the Heat had drawn to within 7 and Ray Allen had the ball and was literally tackled by Udonis Haslem and had another player hanging on his ankle. In spite of both players still hanging on Ray, they called a jump ball instead of a foul. The Celtics were lucky to escape this one with a win and it was a good thing they had built that big lead or they might not have won it. The Celtics out rebounded the Heat 40-39. They shot only 40% while allowing the Heat to shoot 46%. The Celtics had 15 steals in the game. They had 17 turnovers, which is too many, but forced the Heat into 24 turnovers. Rate Will This be Remembered as the Tim Duncan Era or the Shaquille O'Neal Era?

Original at 20 Second Timeout external link    Tue, Jun 26    via Boxxet Collection

By David Friedman To understand why this is the case, we have to travel back in time to the summer of 2002. Duncan had just won his first regular season MVP award but O'Neal and Bryant led the Lakers to a 4-1 Western Conference semifinals victory over Duncan's San Antonio Spurs en route to their third straight NBA title. O'Neal finished third in MVP voting and Bryant placed fifth. The Lakers had beaten the Spurs 4-0 in the 2001 Western Conference Finals and at that time there seemed to be no reason to believe that Duncan and the Spurs were a big threat to the Lakers.
