By Diego Quezada The Heat's sophomore point guard, Mario Chalmers, had eight points and six assists. Chalmers is doing everything that he should do as the Heat's point guard. Starting alongside Wade, Beasley and O'Neal, Chalmers won't get a lot of shots. But he can facilitate Miami's offense, and leading t...

By Ira Winderman The Overload Factor: With Wade, Beasley and Jermaine O'Neal in the starting lineup, that's a lot of scorers looking for a lot of shots. Figure on Mario Chalmers standing somewhere in the corner and Richardson playing as somewhat of a facilitator.
Lineup choice: Column A or Column B

By Ira Winderman From this perspective, based on Spoelstra's rotations through the preseason, there appear to be two options. Column A: Jermaine O'Neal at center, Udonis Haslem at power forward, Michael Beasley at small forward, Dwyane Wade at shooting guard and Mario Chalmers at point guard.

By Ira Winderman The Heat's practice court at AmericanAirlines Arena must be some type of mystical retreat. Because when it comes to point guard Mario Chalmers, it seemingly is where he does his best work. For weeks, coach Erik Spoelstra has raved about Chalmers' performance in practice and drills, about...

In a moment of candor, Beasley acknowledges an extra year at Kansas State might not have been such a bad thing, but says he is confident his career is back on the right track.
With Wade, Quinn ailing, Heat focus at point guard further sharpens

Without Wade to help with the ballhandling, and with Quinn out at least a week, Mario Chalmers has never been more isolated at point guard. If ever there was a debate about a move for veteran, this settles it.

Heat point guard said he never was placed in the NBA's substance-abuse program, and therefore his only offseason punishment for his misstep at the 2008 rookie seminar was repeating the program this summer.
Camp preview: Five players on the spot not named Wade or Beasley

Of course Dwyane Wade has to produce. And, of course, much more is anticipated from Michael Beasley. But the expectations go far deeper on this roster as the Heat prepares for camp. What about Mario Chalmers? James Jones? Jermaine O'Neal? Daequan Cook? Quentin Richardson?

By Ira Winderman The other veteran point guards: Or the Heat could simply move toward the type of veteran who would know his place from the get-go, who would stay out of Dwyane Wade's way, and who would spot up for open jumpers and allow Mario Chalmers to mature with the starters. Free agents in that group incl...

By dberri As for Chalmers…a few days ago I noted that he’s producing at a level similar to what we see from Derrick Rose. If you recall, Rose was taken with the first pick in the 2008 draft. The Heat took Beasley with the second choice, and then waited until the second round to take Chalmers. At this poin...

By David Friedman(noreply@blogger.com) As for Miami, the Heat are obviously immensely better than they were last year. Wade has regained his explosiveness and he once again drives relentlessly to the basket. Miami's primary offensive option is Wade dribbling around until he decides to either shoot or pass; in one late game sequence, Wade was the last Heat player to cross midcourt on offense and the other four Heat players simply stood around like little kids waiting for permission to cross the street: they did not even consider the possibility of trying to run an offensive set or create an open shot by dribble penetration. Rookie point guard Mario Chalmers has played actively on defense and he is averaging more than five apg but Wade is clearly running the show. [read the full post]

By Signal to Noise 10. Indiana Pacers - Having a legitimate point guard, albeit a frequently injured one in T.J. Ford, should help. 11. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) Dwyane Wade would like to see Mario Chalmers as Miami's starting point guard this season. The Heat will give him a chance to compete against Marcus Banks for the position. Miami also expects Chris Quinn back and may add a veteran. My money is on Chalmers beating out Banks, who hasn't come anywhere near reaching the expectations that Boston had when they drafted him. The Heat are also still considering big men with Jamaal Magloire, Lorenzen Wright, and DJ Mbenga all waiting for word from them. Mbenga has a minimum level contract to consider from the Lakers, but was hoping to get a little more from the Heat. [read the full post]
First Impressions of the 2008 NBA Draft
Original at 20 Second Timeout
• Fri, Jun 27
By noreply@blogger.com (David Friedman) Between the draft and some recent trades, the Nets added Lopez, Chris Douglas-Roberts (who claims to have never lost a one on one game in his life, a more useful--if harder to verify--trait than Ajinca's one on zero prowess), Ryan Anderson, Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons. Mark Jackson said that New Jersey has made a "tremendous upgrade." Van Gundy liked Milwaukee's moves, which include acquiring Richard Jefferson from New Jersey plus drafting Joe Alexander and Luc Mbah a Moute. Bilas praised the Heat, who added Beasley, Mario Chalmers and Darnell Jackson. Of course, the reality is that it is far too early to know who the real winners and losers are but I think that Jackson, Van Gundy and Bilas' choices are reasonable based on what we currentl...
