By Ira Winderman So after an entire season of explaining why Michael Beasley isn't a small forward, the Heat's first substitution was Beasley for small forward James Jones. The best Heat center in the building was Alonzo Mourning, who again was on hand to lend support.

By Ira Winderman Numbers lie: Mario Chalmers tied for the Heat lead with seven assists. Chalmers mostly seemed like a no-show. Clearly the assists can be inflated when teammates are making every 3-pointer. Also, your Heat questions are answered regularly at Ask Ira!)

By David Friedman(noreply@blogger.com) As for Miami, the Heat are obviously immensely better than they were last year. Wade has regained his explosiveness and he once again drives relentlessly to the basket. Miami's primary offensive option is Wade dribbling around until he decides to either shoot or pass; in one late game sequence, Wade was the last Heat player to cross midcourt on offense and the other four Heat players simply stood around like little kids waiting for permission to cross the street: they did not even consider the possibility of trying to run an offensive set or create an open shot by dribble penetration. Rookie point guard Mario Chalmers has played actively on defense and he is averaging more than five apg but Wade is clearly running the show. [read the full post]

There were reports. There were whispers. There was a cloud of suspicion that maybe Miami Heat rookie Michael Beasley had been involved in that Rookie Transition Program hotel room party that got Darrell Arthur and Mario Chalmers sent home and in trouble.

By Russ Bengtson Hey look, it’s Gary Payton! Mourning stretches the Heat lead to seven. Zone! Shaq snuffs P.J. Brown, Deng misses from deep, and the Bulls are cold as ice. Dwyane Wade has nine assists. Dwyane Wade has two more points than he did a second ago. Alonzo Mourning is a lunatic.
