By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) LeBron James is featured in a new documentary called More Than a Game that chronicles his rise to stardom and how he and four of his childhood friends overcame long odds to win a national championship in high school. More Than A Game focuses on how KeBron and his friends have their lives shaped by basketball. Jamaal Magloire is excited to have another chance with the Heat and is ready to prove himself to them in training camp. He has to be an upgrade over Stone Hands Blount and should be able to beat him out for the starting center spot if he even gives half an effort. The only year Blount really tried was his contract year. The Heat are also close to re-signing restricted free agent point guard Chris Quinn, who was extended a $1 million qualifying offer... By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) One of the reasons that the Suns were very anxious to get Goran Dragic into the fold and now picked up a 3rd point guard, is that Steve Kerr has a plan to get Steve Nash into the playoffs well rested. He plans to play Nash in only 70 games during the season. With Nash turning 34, they feel that the rigors of playing in 81 games and averaging over 34 mpg is wearing him down before the Suns even get into the playoffs. They are hoping that Dragic is good enough that they will be able to rest Nash and have him fresh down the stretch. Nice plan if it works but Nash isn't so sure it will. Carmelo Anthony also expressed a desire to compete in the 2012 Olympics but wasn't sure if he could make another 3 year commitment. With the positive experience of this team all the way around, I am sure other young players will be ready to join the team as well. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) The New Orleans Hornets signed former Cavalier Devin Brown on Friday. Brown played with New Orleans two seasons ago and was brought back to bolster the depth in the backcourt. The move was made following the departure of backup guard Jannero Pargo, who joined a team in Russia. Brown is a versatile player who can play both guard spots (not that they will need him there very much) and can also play both forward spots. Brown averaged 7.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 78 games with Cleveland last season. The San Antonio Spurs officially re-signed Michael Finley on Friday. Finley was one of only 2 players to appear in all 82 games last season for the Spurs. He averaged 10.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists and was an important part of the Spurs' rot... By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) The Miami Heat and forward Dorell Wright have agreed to terms on a two-year deal. It is expected to be finalized this week. A restricted free agent, Wright had been given a qualifying offer of $2.9 million for 2008-09. His new contract will start at roughly the $2.9 qualifying offer. This gives the Heat 13 players under contract for next season. The Heat are also in talks with Jamaal Magloire who postponed his visit to Miami because of Tropical Storm Fay. Magloire would definitely be an upgrade over Mark (I'll get the rebound if I don't have to work for it) Blount. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) The Celtics are favored to win the East again next season. Here is what Marty Burns said in his Eastern Conference preview: 1. Celtics: The loss of veteran forward James Posey (via free agency to the Hornets) could hurt, especially come playoff time, but for now Boston has to be considered the East favorite again. General manager Danny Ainge re-signed key reserves Eddie House and Tony Allen, and Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen should be even better with another year together (assuming they're not too worn out from last season's long playoff run). The bottom line is that the defending champs didn't make any significant moves ... but they didn't need to. [read the full post]

They have been absolutely dominant, winning their five pool play games by an average of 43.0 points. The elimination rounds begin on Tuesday night with a matchup against South Korea, who finished fourth in Group A with a 2-3 record. After that, the U.S. will likely face Becky Hammon and Russia, who are 4-1 after pool play, in the semifinals on Thursday. And if the U.S. gets through Russia, they should face Australia, the only other unbeaten team in the competition, in the gold medal game on Saturday, Aug. 23. No dice. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) The Boston Globe reports that Stephon Marbury's days as a Knick are over according to a league source. This has been expected for some time. The question now is when are they going to release him. There were rumors that the Celtics might be interested but now that they have signed both Eddie House and Tony Allen, I don't see where he would fit. The Celtics need a back up small forward the most and after that, possibly a veteran center. If they sign Bill Walker, which I really hope they do, they will have just one spot left and I just don't see it going to a troubled point guard, no matter how well he gets along with KG. Marbury may end up in Europe quicker than he thought. Discuss this topic on the Celtics Green Forums!] [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) Another of the top free agents is heading to Europe. New Orleans Hornets free agent guard Jannero Pargo, who has had offers from the Spurs and the Hawks and who was on the Suns radar, has reached an agreement in principle with Moscow Dynamo on a one-year contract worth about $3.5 million, according to a report on Yahoo Sports. Once again the lure of more money in Europe has taken a key free agent from the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers signed 6'9" free agent power forward Josh Powell on Thursday. Powell is a three-year NBA veteran who played last season with the Clippers where he averaged 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 64 games. The Sixers can offer just a minimum contract and word is that former Sixer (and Celtic) Theo Ratliff is high on their list to contact. Ratliff played in only 2 games in his year with the Celtics and he and his expiring contract were sent to Minnesota in the deal that brought KG to the Celtics. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) Philadelphia 76ers are already having some bad luck and the season hasn't even started. Their center Jason Smith tore the ACL in his left knee during an NBA-approved camp in Las Vegas. Smith, a second-year player out of Colorado State, averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as a rookie. He averaged 18.6 points and 8.0 rebounds in five games in the Las Vegas summer league. The Celtics have several players who can give Smith some support and advice. We still have visions of Tony Allen writhing on the floor in pain after tearing his ACL in the 2006-07 season. In return, the Rockets will have the option to exchange second-round picks with the Clippers in the 2011 NBA draft. Don't you love all these teams getting players for next to nothing? Must be nice to have all that cap space. The Clippers also signed free agent point guard Jason Williams on Thursday. He joins former Heat teammate, Ricky Davis, on the team. By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) After threatening to join the exodus to Europe, Andris Biedrins signed a lucrative 6 year contract with the Warriors worth a reported $63 million. This is the second player in the last few days who is being overpaid by his team after threatening to go to Europe if they didn't offer enough. First, Sasha Vujacic signed a three-year, $15 million contract after threatening to leave for Europe and now this ridiculous contract for Biedrins. This may be a disturbing trend as teams pay too much for players because they threaten to go overseas. I actually believe that the Hornets overpaid for Posey and may regret it somewhere down the line. Although, he may be the piece that puts them over the top as a contender so we won't know until it all plays out. [read the full post]

Jones was drafted by Boston in 2003 but sent to Memphis in the trade that brought Kendrick Perkins and Marcus Banks to Botson. Jones was also given a look by the Celtics last season in training camp. After a good showing in Summer League, the Nuggets gave Jones a one-year fully guaranteed deal for the NBA minimum of $926,678. The Birdman had visited Boston for 2 days early in the free agency period and Danny seemed to have interest in him and vice versa. Now, Andersen has agreed to a one year contract with the Nuggets and will continue his NBA comeback in Denver where he was a fan favorite from 2001-2004. I was hoping the Celtics would sign him, even though they already signed Patrick O'Bryant to back up Perk since O'Bryant may be more of a project than immediate help and Andersen would come in with athleticism and energy off the bench at the center position. That should concern the Celtics in that they haven't been able to get it done on the road in 5 tries at full strength. Another thing that is concerning is that the Pistons are now sitting back and resting while the Celtics are going to have to go at least 6 games and possibly 7 if the Celtics can find some heart somewhere. By FLCeltsFan Here are comments found around the Hornets boards during their game with the Celtics. When all else fails, blame the refs. I agree that the officiating was bad, but it was bad both ways. Kenny Mauer hates the Celtics and those two calls on Perk that got Doc the technical were as bad as any against the Hornets. The call on West was bad, but the Celtics out played the Hornets with or without the refs. I'm not buying it. The Hornets are being overagressive and not having much luck. Some of the calls are questionable, but it's gone both ways. The Hornets are losing because they're not composed (Paul? Byron? come on) and just lost it in the second half on the road. Boston doesn't have the NBA's best record because the refs give them games. [read the full post]
