By Johanna Here’s the rundown: New Avengers #40, drawn by Jim Cheung and John Dell, featuring backstory on the Skrulls and the aftermath of the Illuminati’s visit to the Skrull homeworld; New Avengers #41, drawn by Billy Tan, the only Avengers issue (to date) providing a direct in-the-minute tie-...

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Spider-Man mentions that Captain America said that he thought there was some rebellious faction in SHILED trying to kill the Avengers. Evidently, Captain America felt there was something rotten going on with SHIELD. Spider-Man then says that the Skrulls were mining vibranium here and then tried to kill the Avengers here. The ending to New Avengers #41 was a total miss for me. That is because I find the plotline involving the 1970’s Captain America to be completely lacking in drama or intrigue. We know that the 1970’s Captain America is a Skrull. We have seen Steve’s dead body over on Captain America after he was killed by Sharon Carter. I find this 1970’s Captain America plotline a bit of a waste of time.   [read the full post]

By Kevin Melrose Now, he writes, Marvel is at it again, with Nick Fury’s cameo in Iron Man, in which he mentions the Avengers Initiative, and Tony Stark’s appearance in the upcoming Incredible Hulk. And then there’s the apparent glimpse of Captain America’s shield in Iron Man, and the role of the Super-Sol...

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene from six months ago. We see Nick Fury meeting with Daisy Johnson at a park bench. Nick is using a disguise that makes him look like the Ultimate universe Nick Fury. (This joke is getting a bit old.) Daisy is still a bit resentful about the secret war that Nick Fury led her and a bunch of other SHIELD agents on in Latveria. That secret raid cost Daisy her job with SHIELD. Comments The Good: Mighty Avengers #13 was another good read. Bendis is doing an impressive job with these Secret Invasion tie-in issues. They are better than what we are getting on Secret Invasion itself. I am completely fascinated with learning what Nick Fury has been up to trying to get ready to deal with the Skrull invasion.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn I have definitely enjoyed Mighty Avengers #12 and New Avengers #40 as Bendis continues to fill the reader in on the back-story and proceeds to flesh out the Secret Invasion story. It is evident after reading New Avengers #40 that the Skrull religion plays a central role in Secret Invasion. I really didn’t think that Jessica was going to be a Skrull. In Mighty Avengers #12, Nick Fury was pretty confident that Spider-Woman was not a Skrull. Evidently, unless this hook ending to New Avengers #40 is a red herring, it appears that Nick Fury has misjudged Spider-Woman and that could be a fatal error. The selection of Spider-Woman makes perfect sense. The Queen can use the role of Spider-Woman to spy on SHIELD, the Mighty Avengers, the New Avengers and N...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn This was a pretty solid collection of comic books this week. Morrison served up a surprisingly intense and unexpected ending with Batman #675. I continue to be impressed with Morrison’s Batman and enjoy how Morrison is handling Bruce’s character. Mighty Avengers #12 was a great read. I was so impressed with how Bendis wrote Fury’s character. It is wonderful to see Bendis flexing his obvious creative talents and write a unique voice for Fury that didn’t read like a trademark “Bendis voice.” Mighty Avengers #12 proved two things. First, that Bendis can flat out write the hell out of Nick Fury and if old one-eye ever got his own title then Bendis should be the writer. Second, that Bendis really excels in stories that center on a single character rath...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Synopsis: We begin with Spider-Woman sneaking into the medical bay of the Avengers Tower where Tony is recuperating. Spider-Woman throws the body of the dead Skrull at the foot of Tony’s bed. Spider-Woman fills Tony in on the events in Japan when the New Avengers discovered that Electra was really a Skrull. That Luke Cage thinks that the Skrulls have been pulling their strings throughout the Civil War. Tony claims that the Civil War was not a manipulation. Spider-Woman mentions how these Skrulls are more advanced and not even Wolverine or Daredevil could tell by scent that Electra was a Skrull. Of course, Spider-Woman re-iterates the fact that the New Avengers all think that Tony is a Skrull.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn The Secret Avengers all agree that Stark has been acting like a Skrull and is certainly probably a Skrull. (I will probably enter a fugue state if Tony is revealed to be a Skrull. Fair warning.) Spider-Woman says that if Luke’s thinking is right on this issue, then the Skrulls may be behind the Civil War, House of M, The Raft and everything else. (Oh god, how much would that just absolutely blow.) I continue to find Yu’s artwork downright ugly. Yu does have talent; however he is simply drawing the wrong title. Yu should be drawing a comic book like Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt. Mighty Avengers is a far better looking comic book than New Avengers.   [read the full post]
