By Kirk Warren(noreply@blogger.com) Ares doesn't care that Norman claims he will kill his son?  Even Bendis managed to understand how much Ares cares for his son, yet Hickman has him stand by like some Yes Man as Norman claims he'll kill his boy?  Ares should have destroyed him on the spot.  Thankfully, previews for the The List...

Rate Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #6

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Thor asks Captain America “Who are you supposed to be?” Captain America shoots back “Who do I look like?” The Avengers then land their ship and come pouring out and gather around Thor. Thor says that he is summoning the battle that must be fought. Nick Fury responds that his god has a hammer. (Snappy.) Iron Man then yells out “Avengers Assemble!” (Damn, that felt good!) Our heroes then charge into combat with the Skrulls. End of issue. Having said that, if you have enjoyed what Bendis has been doing for the past couple of years on New Avengers then you will probably enjoy Secret Invasion #6. And if you have been having fun reading Secret Invasion up to this point then you will probably also like Secret Invasion #6.   [read the full post]

Rate Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #13: Secret Invasion

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene from six months ago. We see Nick Fury meeting with Daisy Johnson at a park bench. Nick is using a disguise that makes him look like the Ultimate universe Nick Fury. (This joke is getting a bit old.) Daisy is still a bit resentful about the secret war that Nick Fury led her and a bunch of other SHIELD agents on in Latveria. That secret raid cost Daisy her job with SHIELD. Comments The Good: Mighty Avengers #13 was another good read. Bendis is doing an impressive job with these Secret Invasion tie-in issues. They are better than what we are getting on Secret Invasion itself. I am completely fascinated with learning what Nick Fury has been up to trying to get ready to deal with the Skrull invasion.   [read the full post]

Rate Comic Book Review: New Avengers #40: Secret Invasion

Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution external link    Thu, May 1

By Rokk Krinn I have definitely enjoyed Mighty Avengers #12 and New Avengers #40 as Bendis continues to fill the reader in on the back-story and proceeds to flesh out the Secret Invasion story. It is evident after reading New Avengers #40 that the Skrull religion plays a central role in Secret Invasion. I really didn’t think that Jessica was going to be a Skrull. In Mighty Avengers #12, Nick Fury was pretty confident that Spider-Woman was not a Skrull. Evidently, unless this hook ending to New Avengers #40 is a red herring, it appears that Nick Fury has misjudged Spider-Woman and that could be a fatal error. The selection of Spider-Woman makes perfect sense. The Queen can use the role of Spider-Woman to spy on SHIELD, the Mighty Avengers, the New Avengers and N...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn This was a pretty solid collection of comic books this week. Morrison served up a surprisingly intense and unexpected ending with Batman #675. I continue to be impressed with Morrison’s Batman and enjoy how Morrison is handling Bruce’s character. Mighty Avengers #12 was a great read. I was so impressed with how Bendis wrote Fury’s character. It is wonderful to see Bendis flexing his obvious creative talents and write a unique voice for Fury that didn’t read like a trademark “Bendis voice.” Mighty Avengers #12 proved two things. First, that Bendis can flat out write the hell out of Nick Fury and if old one-eye ever got his own title then Bendis should be the writer. Second, that Bendis really excels in stories that center on a single character rath...   [read the full post]

Rate Comic Book Review: Iron Man #28

Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution external link    Sun, Apr 20

By Rokk Krinn Iron Man continues to be another phenomenally well written title that unfortunately isn’t getting the attention that it so richly deserves. It is an absolute shame that much of the utter garbage that Marvel and DC foists on us each month sells better than Iron Man. Of course, when Marvel allows writers like Bendis and JMS to routinely perform character assassination on Tony Stark it is no wonder that more comic book readers aren’t giving this title a try. Overall: Iron Man #28 was an excellent read and a phenomenal ending to an impressive story arc. Iron Man is another title that I can’t urge people enough to run out and go purchase. This is an unbelievably well written title that will appeal to a wide range of comic book readers. Only fans of mindle...   [read the full post]
