The Skrull Queen orders her solider to target Reed Richards. In turn, Captain America orders the heroes to target the Skrull Queen. The plotting on Secret Invasion #7 also suffers from a lack of internal logic. In Secret Invasion #5 we see Skrully Jarvis getting blown up aboard the SHIELD Helicarrier that was located in the Bermuda Triangle. We slide to Nick in a hospital bed with General Ross in the room questioning Nick. Ross asks why a filthy mutant killing machine like Wolverine would carry Nick on his back across the desert. All Wolverine is programmed to do is kill and yet he saved Nick. Nick responds that there is only one Captain America and that he died during World War II. Nick says that he is not Captain America. Nick says that it takes a certain type of man to represent an ideal to a nation and a world. Nick says that he is not that kind of man. Thor says that he is summoning the battle that must be fought. Nick Fury responds that his god has a hammer. (Snappy.) Iron Man then yells out “Avengers Assemble!” (Damn, that felt good!) Our heroes then charge into combat with the Skrulls. End of issue. Having said that, if you have enjoyed what Bendis has been doing for the past couple of years on New Avengers then you will probably enjoy Secret Invasion #6. Evidently, Captain America felt there was something rotten going on with SHIELD. Spider-Man then says that the Skrulls were mining vibranium here and then tried to kill the Avengers here. The ending to New Avengers #41 was a total miss for me. That is because I find the plotline involving the 1970’s Captain America to be completely lacking in drama or intrigue. We know that the 1970’s Captain America is a Skrull. We have seen Steve’s dead body over on Captain America after he was killed by Sharon Carter. Hill responds that they are headed straight for North Korean airspace and will arrive in it in twelve minutes. Maria Hill then triggers a full evacuation alert for the personnel on the Helicarrier. I am very curious to see what Brubaker has in store for this title now that Captain America is dead. I imagine that Sharon Carter, Nick Fury, The Falcon and Bucky will all now assume center stage on this title until Brubaker brings Steve Rogers back to life. Let’s go ahead and hit this review for Captain America #26. Brubaker has quickly solved that problem with Bucky. Bucky is now his own man with his own personality and style of operating. Bucky is not Captain America Junior. Bucky is not longer a sidekick. Bucky is an engine of destruction. He is a killing machine.
