By Kirk Warren(noreply@blogger.com) However, it wasn't just the art during the origin section that impressed me. The way the origin was told and how it cut between time periods and even the inclusion of Logan, which didn't feel like a forced Wolverine appearance. They actually make reference to the old Uncanny X-Men issue wi...

Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #7
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Thu, Oct 23
By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with the Secret Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Young Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Nick Fury and the new Howling Commandos and the Hood and his goons all united together and battling the Skrull super soldiers. The Skrull Queen orders her solider to target Reed Richards. In turn, Captain America orders the heroes to target the Skrull Queen. The plotting on Secret Invasion #7 also suffers from a lack of internal logic. In Secret Invasion #5 we see Skrully Jarvis getting blown up aboard the SHIELD Helicarrier that was located in the Bermuda Triangle. And it is my impression that not much time elapses between the end of Secret Invasion #5 and the beginning of Secret Invasion #7. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin years ago in Kuwait with Wolverine carrying a badly injured Nick Fury through the desert. We slide to Nick in a hospital bed with General Ross in the room questioning Nick. Ross asks why a filthy mutant killing machine like Wolverine would carry Nick on his back across the desert. All Wolverine is programmed to do is kill and yet he saved Nick. Nick responds that there is only one Captain America and that he died during World War II. Nick says that he is not Captain America. Nick says that it takes a certain type of man to represent an ideal to a nation and a world. Nick says that he is not that kind of man. Nick says that he is the man who ran away. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Thor asks Captain America “Who are you supposed to be?” Captain America shoots back “Who do I look like?” The Avengers then land their ship and come pouring out and gather around Thor. Thor says that he is summoning the battle that must be fought. Nick Fury responds that his god has a hammer. (Snappy.) Iron Man then yells out “Avengers Assemble!” (Damn, that felt good!) Our heroes then charge into combat with the Skrulls. End of issue. Having said that, if you have enjoyed what Bendis has been doing for the past couple of years on New Avengers then you will probably enjoy Secret Invasion #6. And if you have been having fun reading Secret Invasion up to this point then you will probably also like Secret Invasion #6. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: New Avengers #41: Secret Invasion
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Mon, Jun 2
By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Spider-Man mentions that Captain America said that he thought there was some rebellious faction in SHILED trying to kill the Avengers. Evidently, Captain America felt there was something rotten going on with SHIELD. Spider-Man then says that the Skrulls were mining vibranium here and then tried to kill the Avengers here. The ending to New Avengers #41 was a total miss for me. That is because I find the plotline involving the 1970’s Captain America to be completely lacking in drama or intrigue. We know that the 1970’s Captain America is a Skrull. We have seen Steve’s dead body over on Captain America after he was killed by Sharon Carter. I find this 1970’s Captain America plotline a bit of a waste of time. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Mon, May 12
By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Marvel continues to flood the market with Iron Man as we get yet another Iron Man mini-series with Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas. Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man, is handling the writing duties on this title as Adi Granov handles the art chores. I am looking forward to Favreau’s story. Favreau gave us a fantastic version of Tony Stark and clearly gets Tony’s character. I’m confident that we will get a good read with Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1. Let’s go ahead and hit this review. If you prefer complex and deep stories like what we get over on Iron Man: Director of SHIELD then you might not be thrilled with the simpler story that we get in Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1. However, I definitely found Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1 to be a much more fun and entertaining... [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #13: Secret Invasion
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Fri, May 9
By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene from six months ago. We see Nick Fury meeting with Daisy Johnson at a park bench. Nick is using a disguise that makes him look like the Ultimate universe Nick Fury. (This joke is getting a bit old.) Daisy is still a bit resentful about the secret war that Nick Fury led her and a bunch of other SHIELD agents on in Latveria. That secret raid cost Daisy her job with SHIELD. Comments The Good: Mighty Avengers #13 was another good read. Bendis is doing an impressive job with these Secret Invasion tie-in issues. They are better than what we are getting on Secret Invasion itself. I am completely fascinated with learning what Nick Fury has been up to trying to get ready to deal with the Skrull invasion. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: New Avengers #40: Secret Invasion
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Thu, May 1
By Rokk Krinn I have definitely enjoyed Mighty Avengers #12 and New Avengers #40 as Bendis continues to fill the reader in on the back-story and proceeds to flesh out the Secret Invasion story. It is evident after reading New Avengers #40 that the Skrull religion plays a central role in Secret Invasion. I really didn’t think that Jessica was going to be a Skrull. In Mighty Avengers #12, Nick Fury was pretty confident that Spider-Woman was not a Skrull. Evidently, unless this hook ending to New Avengers #40 is a red herring, it appears that Nick Fury has misjudged Spider-Woman and that could be a fatal error. The selection of Spider-Woman makes perfect sense. The Queen can use the role of Spider-Woman to spy on SHIELD, the Mighty Avengers, the New Avengers and N... [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Iron Man #28
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Sun, Apr 20
By Rokk Krinn Iron Man continues to be another phenomenally well written title that unfortunately isn’t getting the attention that it so richly deserves. It is an absolute shame that much of the utter garbage that Marvel and DC foists on us each month sells better than Iron Man. Of course, when Marvel allows writers like Bendis and JMS to routinely perform character assassination on Tony Stark it is no wonder that more comic book readers aren’t giving this title a try. Overall: Iron Man #28 was an excellent read and a phenomenal ending to an impressive story arc. Iron Man is another title that I can’t urge people enough to run out and go purchase. This is an unbelievably well written title that will appeal to a wide range of comic book readers. Only fans of mindle... [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #7

• Mon, Jan 14
By Rokk Krinn Synopsis: We begin with Spider-Woman sneaking into the medical bay of the Avengers Tower where Tony is recuperating. Spider-Woman throws the body of the dead Skrull at the foot of Tony’s bed. Spider-Woman fills Tony in on the events in Japan when the New Avengers discovered that Electra was really a Skrull. That Luke Cage thinks that the Skrulls have been pulling their strings throughout the Civil War. Tony claims that the Civil War was not a manipulation. Spider-Woman mentions how these Skrulls are more advanced and not even Wolverine or Daredevil could tell by scent that Electra was a Skrull. Of course, Spider-Woman re-iterates the fact that the New Avengers all think that Tony is a Skrull. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: New Avengers #32
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Fri, Jul 13
By Rokk Krinn The Secret Avengers all agree that Stark has been acting like a Skrull and is certainly probably a Skrull. (I will probably enter a fugue state if Tony is revealed to be a Skrull. Fair warning.) Spider-Woman says that if Luke’s thinking is right on this issue, then the Skrulls may be behind the Civil War, House of M, The Raft and everything else. (Oh god, how much would that just absolutely blow.) I continue to find Yu’s artwork downright ugly. Yu does have talent; however he is simply drawing the wrong title. Yu should be drawing a comic book like Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt. Mighty Avengers is a far better looking comic book than New Avengers. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Iron Man #18
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Fri, Jun 8
By Rokk Krinn Maria Hill contracts Iron Man and asks him if they should scuttle the Helicarrier. Iron Man says no since it could infect sea life. Iron Man then races back to the Helicarrier. Iron Man tells Dugan to get a chopper and rendezvous with Alpha Team. Iron Man asks Hill in what direction is the Helicarrier headed. Hill responds that they are headed straight for North Korean airspace and will arrive in it in twelve minutes. Maria Hill then triggers a full evacuation alert for the personnel on the Helicarrier. Iron Man thinks how “This nightmare…This nightmare is my father…” (We see a picture of Sal) “…My friend…” (We see a picture of Happy Hogan) “…My brother…” (We see a picture of Captain America). Iron Man then thinks “I..am… Iron Man.” [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: Captain America #26
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Fri, May 25
By Rokk Krinn Marvel took some time off for Captain America in order to run a whole mess of special issues dealing with the death of Captain America. I am very curious to see what Brubaker has in store for this title now that Captain America is dead. I imagine that Sharon Carter, Nick Fury, The Falcon and Bucky will all now assume center stage on this title until Brubaker brings Steve Rogers back to life. Let’s go ahead and hit this review for Captain America #26. Brubaker has quickly solved that problem with Bucky. Bucky is now his own man with his own personality and style of operating. Bucky is not Captain America Junior. Bucky is not longer a sidekick. Bucky is an engine of destruction. He is a killing machine. And Bucky operated completely differently than Captain...
