In the (only) good news lately for the Celtics, they probably can't fall much farther. Last week's loss in Orlando left them tied for No. 2 in the East, with one prize left to contest: home-court advantage should they play the Magic. Bad as that is, ...

In the midst of a long-awaited comeback in a sport he rules and on the eve of defending his championship at a golf tournament he loves, Tiger Woods was actually thinking about attending the Magic-Celtics game Wednesday night. He thought about it. Thought about it long hand hard. "I'd like to g...

By Doc319@yahoo.com (David Friedman) Phoenix opened the game with an 11-0 run, led most of the way, perfectly executed an out of bounds play late in the game to score the go ahead layup--and still found a way to lose to their nemesis, the San Antonio Spurs. This time the dagger came in the form of a Roger Mason three pointer at the buzzer, delivering a 91-90 win for the Spurs. Tony Parker scored a game-high 27 points and tied Steve Nash for game-high honors with eight assists. Tim Duncan added 25 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Shaquille O'Neal powered his way to 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. O'Neal looked better than he has in quite some time; he opened the game with a spin move leading to a powerful dunk...   [read the full post]

By Tom Ziller What about the Magic? I mean, I even forgot them in my opening salvo. Among the contenders, only Boston and Orlando got worse when it comes to personnel (the C's losing James Posey, the Magic replacing Keyon Dooling and Mo Evans with, ahem, Anthony Johnson). Is improvement from Dwight Howar...

Last night the Angels (in the immortal words of Captain Insano) ‘opened up a can of whoop-ass’ on the New York Yankees as they pummeled the Pinstripers 12-1. Nothing new there as the Angels have pretty much owned New York since the Joe Torre era. But things actually got physical between two gu...

Rate Opinion: The Joy of Six: Detroit Advances to the Eastern Conference Finals Again

Original at 20 Second Timeout external link    Thu, May 15

By noreply@blogger.com (David Friedman) The Detroit Pistons beat the Orlando Magic 91-86 on Tuesday to win that series four games to one and thus advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the sixth straight season. The Showtime Lakers from the 1980s are the most recent team to make it to the Conference Finals at least six years in a row (they did it from 1982-89), so this is quite an accomplishment for the Pistons. On the other hand, the Lakers did a much better job of taking advantage of those opportunities than the Pistons have: the Lakers made it to the Finals seven times and won four championships during their run while the Pistons have only made two Finals appearances and won just one title during their streak. Basically, the Pistons of the 2000s are like the Atlanta Braves of the...   [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) Well, the Pistons have finished off the Magic in 5 games. They won on the road and they did it without Chauncey Billups. That should concern the Celtics in that they haven't been able to get it done on the road in 5 tries at full strength. Another thing that is concerning is that the Pistons are now sitting back and resting while the Celtics are going to have to go at least 6 games and possibly 7 if the Celtics can find some heart somewhere. This is assuming that the Celtics can come back and win 2 more games. I used to think that the Celtics were a lock for the Eastern Conference finals but the way they have been playing I don't know any more.   [read the full post]
