Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson have been named to the Sporting News list of the 50 greatest players in the NBA today, as selected by a panel of 107 Hall of Famers, major award winners, executives, current players and coaches and other basketball experts.

By dberri Ginobili is not the only player to suffer an injury.  Last year, Tony Parker posted a 0.166 WP48.  This year Parker has missed four games and his WP48 is only 0.090.  If Parker can average 30 minutes per game – and return to what we saw last year – we can add 4.3 wins to the Spurs’ projection.

The Mavericks were sapped in the overtime and lost by seven. It’s unfair to say the Mavericks’ defense is too cautious at the end of quarters. Against San Antonio, Jason Kidd went face-to-back with Manu Ginobili and did as good a job of staying in front of the Spurs’ star as possible.

He went down again in their game against Team USA and on Friday it was announced that he would undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a ligament injury to his left ankle. An MRI conducted earlier this week confirmed that he had re-aggravated the injury that plagued him throughout the playoffs but that there was no additional damage to the ankle or the ligament as a result of his playing in the Olympics. Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic said Saturday that several of the Spurs' 11 3-pointers in Game 3 were uncontested. But Scott came prepared with statistics showing why the Hornets need to improve their interior defense, where Spurs guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili took over.

Once again, the Hornets bent over backward to take Tim Duncan out of the game, which is one reason Parker and Ginobili were so huge. Duncan finished with only 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting, but it was his initial pass out of double-teams that led to several San Antonio triples.
