Reality Check: Let Singletary Go at End of Season
Original at 49ersnews.com
• Mon, Nov 9
By erickson@49ersnews.com The one part of this team that Singletary is 100% accountable for is that of offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. Raye was Singletary’s choice, he was the one who believed Raye would be the man to help punch people in the face, after eight weeks it’s more of a light slap.

By erickson@49ersnews.com After last Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts, in another very winnable game, I find myself ignoring the good points, something I normally do to keep a positive attitude. I felt like Dennis Green after his Arizona Cardinals “let them (Chicago Bears) off the hook.” For the second week...

Niners Lose Third in a Row

By erickson@49ersnews.com The 49ers dropped their third straight to fall to 3-4 overall. The 49ers did a good job of stopping Peyton Manning, but the offense still has problems. It looks like they have a quarterback who can run this offense, but unfortunately they still have Jimmy Raye calling the plays. With Raye it lo...

Alex Smith Boosts Offense
Original at 49ersnews.com
• Sun, Oct 25
By erickson@49ersnews.com What’s most important about Smith’s emergence is how good the offense looked. He finished 15-22 for 206 yards 3 touchdowns and that game-ending interception. Vernon Davis obviously benefited the most with Smith at quarterback. His seven receptions led the team, as well as his 93 yards rec...

By erickson@49ersnews.com Now the biggest question is, who does Mike Singletary go with next week in Indy. Shaun Hill or Alex Smith. Hopefully Smith gets the call. By Erik Klackner But all is not well. The passing game ranks 30th in the NFL, and has failed to generate any sustained momentum. And while Singletary and offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye may still harbor aspirations of having a 60/40 run/pass ratio, the passing game must hold up its 40 of the bargain.

By Niner Pundit I know I’m going to get a lot of crap here after I say this, but the 49ers need a real QB and a real OC. Yes, I know Hill is 9-3 as a starter and 6-0 at home. But the guy can’t throw, can’t elude the pass rush, and looks like the Dan Quissenberry of the NFL. Today the victory goes to Frank Gore and the Defens...

Nolan’s Job on the Line?
Original at 49ersnews.com
• Sat, Nov 3
By erickson@49ersnews.com This was supposed to be the year that the combination of good young talent and a weak NFC West made the 49ers a potential playoff team. But the 49ers aren’t getting to the postseason, and now there is actually talk in San Francisco that head coach Mike Nolan’s job could be on the line. The 49ers play the Falcons Sunday, and for as bad as the Atlanta offense has looked this year without Michael Vick at quarterback, it’s a lot better than the San Francisco offense has looked without Norv Turner calling the plays. Nolan chose Jim Hostler as Turner’s successor, and that decision has had disastrous consequences on the field. If the 49ers lose to the woeful Falcons Sunday, it could have disastrous consequences for Nolan’s job security, too. [read the full post]
