A good argument could be made that Warner Home Video's long-awaited release of a stand-alone DVD edition of the Max Fleischer/Famous Studios Superman cartoons is no big deal. After all, all 17 of these cinematic gems were already included in the massive Superman: The Ultimate Collector...

Of course, in addition to the beautiful character moments, there are a great many other things to love in this volume. Many of the themes explored in the current New Krypton also appeared in Chapter 9 “Curse of the Replacement Supermen, ” on a much smaller, but still very effective scale. Sup...

Since last week's episode of Smallville featured the teamup of Clark and Supergirl, I thought it would be fitting to review the first issue of the new Superman/Supergirl mini-series. The Smallville episode was good, I hope that this story is as good.
When Supergirl looks up, more cars are being thrown at her. Supergirl bats them aside and demands to know who is doing this. Maelstrom is standing in the middle of the road. She wants Superman. Supergirl attacks her. Maelstrom beats up Supergirl.
A battered Supergirl pulls herself from the wreckage. She wants to help the survivors. Superman has already helped them. She collapses. Superman picks her up and flies off. He is going to do what he should have done a long time ago.

We hop over to the Daily Planet where Jimmy is sitting there waiting for Clark. Jimmy tells Lois that he has something important to talk to Clark about. Lois says that Clark is busy helping out his mother so it is best that Jimmy not talk to Clark for a while. Lois notices that Jimmy is extremely bothered. Lois then tells Jimmy that he can trust her and tell her whatever he wanted to talk to Clark about.
Jimmy then recounts the events told in Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen Special #1. Jimmy says that the bottom line is that the military is amassing all sorts of Kryptonite weaponry. Lois comments that the military wants a way to defeat the Kryptonians. Jimmy adds that the military project is designed to defeat just one Kryptonian: Superman. Jimmy thinks that t...

Brainiac says that Earth has robbed Superman of his potential. That Superman is far from being a Kryptonian. That Superman is nothing more than a simple brute. Superman answers back “When I need to be.” Superman then proceeds to beat the crap out of Brainiac.
Richard Donner is a fantastic movie director. And Donner’s 1978 Superman movie is one of my all-time favorite comic book movies. And, yes, for me Christopher Reeves IS Superman.
Superman already has the proper motivation and outlook on life. Superman already knows right from wrong. Superman already has a strong moral compass and a keen sense for Truth, Justice and the American Way.

We zip back in time to the scene in Final Crisis #3 with Clark at Lois’ bed side. Clark thinks how he would do anything to save Lois. Suddenly, the mysterious woman from Final Crisis #3 enters the room. Her name is Zillo Valla. Zillo Valla freezes time and tells Superman that if he helps her than she will help him.

Superman and the Monitor board the Ultima Thule and they take off. Zillo Valla suddenly exclaims that something is wrong. We see a German Superman named Overman on the ship as well as Captain Marvel and a chrome Superman named Adam Allen. The multiple versions of Superman are all using their powers to fly the Ultima Thule.

Jimmy then begins to glow with green Kryptonite. Superman crumbles to the ground. Jimmy is horrified and exclaims that Darkseid is controlling him. That Jimmy has absolutely no control over his powers. Darkseid tells Jimmy that he can now watch his best friend die.

Personally, if Didio really felt the need for a female villain to compliment Superman-Prime then I would have much preferred that Supergirl play this role rather than Mary Marvel. At least it would have made a bit more sense for Supergirl...
