This is what the series has been building up to all along, and we should all be thrilled the show got the chance to go there. Beyond that, Kripke & Co. would probably have to conceive a new story arc so the show wouldn’t go back to being demon-of-the-week (as entertaining as many of those episodes are). If everyone on the show wanted to move forward, I’d be surprised if the CW stood in their way, given the corporate interest Warner Bros. TV has in the franchise. That said, if season 5 ends on a note that gives us a satisfying finish,...   [read the full post]

I feel as if I have missed an episode of Supernatural. The narrative device (of making me think I was watching a TV show) created a distance between myself and Sam and Dean that I wasn't happy with. I feel like I wasn't 'with them' on this one. In fact, they were more like 'guest stars' in this one than main stars. And I hated it. I tune in to be with Sam and Dean on their adventures. "Mystery Spot" Sam is caught in a time loop, reliving the day of Dean's death over and over and over. There are a few good laughs, and we get to see that Sam can survive without Dean, but there's little else to recommend this change-of-pace episode. A funny episode completely driven by the romance. No b-plot appears on-screen, although a plotline involving Frank and Claire was filmed and - I assume - edited out for time reasons. Emmanuelle Vaugier makes a great guest star, but her romance with Sam happens way too fast and the 'emotional' climax left me closer to laughter than tears. It just seemed too absurd for me to buy into. Plus, we'd already seen that it was possible to contain her when she became a werewolf, so killing her at the end seems a tad unnecessary. It's also the exact premise of She-Wolf Of London and they found a way to make it work on that show. By RikerDonegal(podcast@mail2tv.com) Valentine. Episode 2. "Daddy's Home" Better than the pilot. The case-of-the-week is still corny, but most of the episode is devoted to the regulars and their backstory. And a good one it is. The blood-drenched cliff-hanger (flash-forward) really shocked me, and I'll be back for more episodes. Supernatural. Season 2, Episode 14. "Born Under a Bad Sign" Back on form, the show delivers one of it's best-ever episodes. It's a two-hander (hardly anyone else appears in the story) and it's an acting tour-de-force for both men. Jared Padalecki gets to play real Sam (briefly), fake Sam and bad-ass demon. He looks like he is having a ton of fun in all three parts. Jensen Ackles gets to play out some of Dean Winchester's toughest-ever moments (and that is saying...   [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (RikerDonegal) Episode 15. "The Benders" Not being knowledgeable about Supernatural fandom I have no idea how this episode is perceived, but I loved it. Loved it! What a brilliant way to wrongfoot the viewer. An episode of Supernatural where nothing supernatural occurs. And not just any episode: an action-packed, creepy episode with great acting, great character-work and great guest stars. Sam and Dean are seperated when one of them is kidnapped by backwoods weirdos. (Yes, that's a bit of TV cliché but who cares, when the results are this good?) By taking on non-supernatural foes the series opens itself up even more. Wow. Not that it needed it. Now where can I read Supernatural reviews from Season one?   [read the full post]

By Anna Beck Bobby, now truly serious, asked, “What about, Dean?” Turning to Bobby, Sam said, “Thanks for having us, Bobby.” “Say that again,” Dean said. Sam stared at Bobby? “Yaphet?” Sam stared blankly at Bobby, as did Dean. Sam looked at Bobby. “He’s got a point.”

By Brett Love S03E10) Ya know, it's times like this when I miss the old TV Squad episode rating system, because here is one that I could have given the coveted 7 out of 7 to. The Supernatural team delivered on all counts this week. There was the usual humor, with some terrific one liners (Brad Pitt?), a good bi...

By Chris Beaumont The cast is led by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as the brothers Winchester. The chemistry that the two have has grown considerably over the course of the season, these are a couple of guys who clearly are having a good time. Overall, Supernatural is a blast, a surprisingly good show; I'm...
