The Closer - The Slime

I did not see that coming.
I finally watched Monday’s episode of The Closer. Brenda’s team is called in to investigate the rape and murder of a woman on the eve of her 30th birthday. There are no signs of forced entry except for a sliced window screen. A slimey guy is caught holed up in a tree just outside the woman’s house and it turns out he works for a delivery service. The team’s investigation uncovers a pattern connected to him and several other attacks in the area. Seems that slimey guy delivers an appliance or some furniture days before the woman is attacked. In each case, a window screen is cut and the window is unlocked. Brenda deduces that he does his prep work when he makes his delivery. He finds out if the woman live alone, he unlocks a window, then comes back in a few days and easily gets in the house. The guy seems like a scumbag, so it all fits. Right?
Wrong! Nothing is that easy on The Closer, and there’s too much time left in the episode. We meet the guy’s lawyer and while he gives sort of a rational argument for why he has successfully defended his pervy client from being prosecuted for being a pedophile, we don’t buy it. His words about justice kind of fit, but something about him screams scum. He massively pisses off Brenda, because he kind of traps her and the DA into accepting a really crappy deal for his client. Scummy only does 4 years if he provides the name of his partner - the guy that did the actual rapes and murder.
Brenda does not like the deal. The DA wants the deal. Pope tells Brenda to make the deal.
Brenda, the lawyer, the scum are sitting at the table. Brenda is verifying that the guy was doing the intel gathering, figuring out that the women were vulnerable etc. She finds out he was paid $1500 a pop, goes through a few sordid details. Then she gets to the point where she asks him to name his partner and just as the words were coming out of his mouth, I got it. The lawyer was his partner. It all fits. That’s why the weasel was so scared.
Brenda thinks he’s lying and then his babbled explanation sinks in. There is no physical evidence linking the attorney to the case, and the attorney knows this because he got to see all of the evidence as part of the deal. The attorney gets to leave. This guy brutalizes women, all but admits it, and he gets to walk out of the Parker Center. Now I know why my friend Cindy emailed me about the episode and simply wrote “I hate that guy. You’ll know what I mean after you watch The Closer.”
Me too, Cindy. I hate that guy!!
I kept telling myself that Brenda is going to get him. We have not seen the last of that slime. Our girl is going to get him. Nobody can stop Brenda when she is this pissed off.
