The Mars Volta The Mars Volta are very demanding. Their music asks a lot from the listener - their overwhelming progressive tendencies stir up a mind-expanding, soulful journey of relentless tangents, fusing what should be five or six songs into one epic work that pushes the clock into th...
Make no mistake; the entire feel and sound of the band is different with new drummer Thomas Pridgen on the throne. However, the spirit of The Mars Volta remains the same. From the opening twenty-minute "Goliath" jam to the closing song "Ilyena", the band kept the whole crowd on its feet. The Ma...

The Mars Volta grew from the band De Facto, which featured Cedric and Omar during, and after, their time with acclaimed punk act At The Drive-In. Moving from Texas to Long Beach, California, the band's sound evolved and their first release, the Tremulant EP, was released via GSL in 2002.
I haven't heard him yet, is he better than Jon Theodore? Theodore was a pussy. Amputechture was tripe, whoever said the new album needs less Omar and more Cedric was right right right. Please tell John Frusciante to **** off. His playing on Amputechture sucked. nah music news
And along with the heavily hyphenated duo, the two other members of De Facto {Isaiah “Ikey” Owens (who has played keyboards for TMV since the beginning) and Jeremy Michael Ward, (brother to another member of ATDI), who acted as De Facto’s frontman (vocals/guitar/sound manipulation)}...
Amazing show from an amazing band. Hard to believe the review left out possibly their best musician. That would be Thomas Pridgen, their drummer. I watched him hold a drum circle simulateously over the graves of Danny Carey, Neil Peart, and John Bonham.

In 2001, the Mexican-American Bixler-Zavala (vocalist) and Puerto Rican-American Rodríguez-López (guitarist) ditched At The Drive-In, a punk-influenced hard rock outfit beloved for its intense live shows, leaving the remaining members to form Sparta. Bixler-Zavala and Rodrígu...

Aberinkula is a great song to open this album. Unlike previous outings, it starts high-energy without any kind of ambient buildup. My favorite section of this song is the coda, where we get three several improvised sax solos and a brilliant melody line played by both Omar Rodriguez-Lopez a...

It’s a relief that something good finally came of the At The Drive-In breakup. While the majority of the band went on to form the utterly uninspiring Sparta, the two key creative forces, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala, have produced the missing part that left At the Drive-I...

The Mars Volta’s fourth album sees the band indulging in a space rock fantasy inspired by a Ouija board experiment gone wrong. Heavy riffage, squeaky vocals and a constant fuzz of distortion make ‘The Bedlam In Goliath’ sound like Billy Talent’s neurotic kid brother.
This album took me a while to get into. On the first couple of spins, I didn’t find the third studio album by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and crew to be quite as immediate as the first two. However, it grows with repeated listens. And eventually, it’s worth it.
This band here consists of some members from the disbanded At the Drive In, namely Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala, and a collective of professional, exceptionally gifted musicians/previous fans of the band (and goodness knows who else), of all people including John Fru...

The frustration in Cedric Bixler-Zavala's voice is palpable. The lead singer of prog-rock torchbearers The Mars Volta is discussing the recording of the band's new album, Amputechture, and with every word that leaves his lips, the El Paso, Texas native's ire grows.

Then came The Mars Volta. After the release of their Tremulant E.P. on GSL, it was apparent that Omar and Cedric were the freakier, druggier side of ATDI. And now, a year later their full length is finally released. And damn, is it good. Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti
