Arron Afflalo scored 14 points to help No. 2 UCLA defeat No. 13 Washington State 5345 on Thursday night in a showdown of the top two teams in the Pacific10 Conference.

UCLA sophomore Darren Collison is making a stretch run for Pac10 Player of the Year in what had been a twoman race between his teammate, Bruins shooting guard Arron Afflalo.

“That was a great victory for our team,” coach Ben Howland said. Howland singled out the defensive intensity of Afflalo and Farmar, who collectively shut down star Stanford guards Chris Hernandez and Matt Grunfeld to key UCLA’s early run.
