By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with Wolverine, Nightwing and Karma beating the crap out of the Hellfire thugs. To be sure we get plenty of cheesy dialogue during this fight that would fit in perfectly in a 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Cyclops reminds Nightcrawler and Wolverine to bring back one of the thugs so they can question him. The last remaining Hellfire gang member left standing predictably pees his pants at the sight of Wolverine and Nightcrawler. (Oh, I have so never seen this in a comic book before. Top notch, Fraction.) Wolverine and Nightcrawler then capture the Hellfire thug. Wolverine attacks Empath. Empath quickly dispatches of Wolverine. Wolverine radios the other X-Men to tell them that Empath is with the Hellfire Club and that he...   [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Suddenly, Magneto busts onto the scene and saves me from this mind numbing dialogue and incredibly boring story up to this point. Magneto kicks ass on Colossus and then brings the Sentinels to life. Magneto orders the Sentinels to attack all the mutants. The Sentinels attack the X-Men, but strangely leave Magneto alone. The X-Men quickly dispatch the Sentinels and then lock horns with Magneto. Magneto kicks ass on the X-Men. Suddenly, Cannonball rockets onto the scene and blasts into Magneto. Magneto gets up and we see that he is wearing a special outfit designed to mimic his lost mutant powers. Magneto is pissed that his priceless piece of technology that defied biology itself is ruined.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn MARVEL COMICS I finally saw the little preview clip of the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. Wow! Talk about a sweet looking cartoon. It appears that Marvel is cramming just about every character connected to the X-Men into this series. I am definitely excited for this cartoon’s d...

By Rokk Krinn We cut to Colossus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler in a graveyard. Colossus pays his respects to his parents’ grave. The three men then head over to a nearby bar. The two men start drinking as Colossus gets all depressed about his departed family and all the various traumatic events that he has endured as an X-Man. Particularly fresh on his mind is his loss of Kitty Pryde. Wolverine tells Colossus that he shouldn’t keep his emotions bottled up and that he should talk to them about Kitty. Wolverine then orders more drinks. We shift back to the bar in Russia where a bunch of gangster walk in and demand money from the bartender. Wolverine whips out his claws and tells the gangster that you don’t threaten the bartender. Colossus, Nightcrawler and Wolverine p...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Spinning out from the dramatic ending of Messiah Complex comes the newest incarnation of X-Force. And I actually like the purpose of this X-Force more than the preceding versions of this team. Due to the events of Messiah Complex, Cyclops has seen the need for a black ops team like X-Force to pull off the dirty missions that the X-Men cannot be connected with or handle at all. If nothing else, X-Force should supply us with tons of action and a relatively fast paced story. Let’s go ahead and do this review for X-Force #1. Scott says it is only a matter of time before whatever Risman stole from the SHIELD facility is used against mutants. Cyclops says that he wants Logan to lead X-Force and go after Risman and his Purifiers before they have a chance to do w...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn We shift back to Rogue and Gambit. Rogue says that Mystique isn’t dead. Rogue mentions that when she was healed from the Strain 88, that all the minds she had absorbed over the years were also erased. That it was just Rogue. For about a minute. That now it is Rogue and Mystique in her head. Rogue says that she wish she had seen this sooner because then she never would have touched Mystique. Rogue then says that Mystique is the last person she ever wants to see and now Mystique is stuck in her head. Rogue then says that she needs to go away and be by herself and think. Rogue then leaves. Cable then teleports from the scene. As Cable is teleporting away, Bishop wakes up and screams “NO!” and fires several shots at Cable’s disappearing form. The shots wiz through wher...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn MARVEL COMICS Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Well, this is a tough decision. We actually have a really strong selection of comic books headed our way from the House of Ideas. Astonishing X-Men #24 is sure to be a strong read. Whedon’s run on this title has been an absolute blast even with the shipping issues that have plagued this title. However, the issue that I am most looking forward to reading would be X-Men #207. This issue is the dramatic conclusion of the fantastic Messiah Complex story arc. I have loved Messiah Complex from the very start and I am sure that the boys at Marvel have something pretty wild in store for us with the conclusion of Messiah Complex.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn We zip to Nightcrawler and Professor X in the Blackbird. Suddenly, a lightning storm appears and Professor X grabs his head. Professor X says that Storm’s mind suddenly went white and that he can’t get into her mind now. That all he hears is screaming. Beast and Bishop leave the dealer’s place. Beast is depressed that he has hit a total dead end. That he doesn’t know where to go from here. Bishop says he isn’t worried because in his future there are tons of mutants. Beast then comments that Bishop is from an alternate future like Marvel Girl and Cable. That Bishop’s very presence here makes it unlikely that it will ever…Beast pauses and then says “Wait. That could be it.” End of issue.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn I have been impressed with how Whedon has handled Scott during his run on Astonishing X-Men. I have never found Cyclops to be an interesting character. I have always found Cyclops to be dull and boring. A boy scout with a rather vanilla personality. If Cyclops was a color then it would be beige. Not anymore. Whedon has taken Scott’s character and shown us what a ballsy leader Scott is. That Scott is to the X-Men what Captain America is to the Avengers. Overall: Astonishing X-Men #22 was another excellent read. Despite the pathetic shipping schedule I still love this title. Whedon consistently delivers quality reads each and every issue. Whedon is serving up some of the best X-Men stories since Chris Claremont’s original run on Uncanny X-Men.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn And what is up with Carey’s Colossus? Colossus acts like he is from outer space rather than from Russia. Colossus isn’t a Vulcan. And Colossus didn’t just get off the boat. He has been in America for quite some time. It is striking the difference of Whedon’s well developed Colossus and Carey’s one-dimensional dumb Colossus who acts like he just arrived on planet Earth from planet Vulcan. Overall: There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Carey’s X-Men is the weakest of all the X-titles that Marvel publishes. David’s X-Factor is the best with some of the best character work, dialogue and subtle plotlines currently on the market. Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men is next with excellent character work, good chemistry and quality action. Then comes Br...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Mystique asks Iceman if he can take care of it. Iceman comments that they will find out. Mystique then gives Iceman a kiss for good luck. Iceman then freezes the Conquistador and prevents everyone from getting crispy fried. Hecatomb is still beating up Cable and Urizen. Urizen tells Cable that Hecatomb is about to absorb him. Cannonball blasts into the scene and pulls Cable out just in time to save him, but Hecatomb is able to absorb Urizen. Carey’s character work is equally unimpressive. Carey writes every single X-Men identical to each other. Carey has failed to engage in even a token effort at developing and fleshing out the characters and personalities of the various X-Men. These characters are about as generic as you can get. Carey’s X-Men are e...   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Darwin then informs Nightcrawler that the M’Kraan Crystal gave Professor X his mutant powers back. Professor X comments that they must make contact with Alex and the others immediately. I dig that Polaris is standing by her man. For me, Havok and Polaris go together like peanut butter and jelly. I didn’t really get into it when they were broken up and Polaris was paired up with Iceman. It just didn’t work for me. These two characters belong together and it is cool to see Polaris willing to sacrifice her life in order to support Havok. Brubaker has done a nice job capturing the emotion and depth of the relationship between Havok and Polaris.   [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn Synopsis: We begin with Wolverine, Armor, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Beast and Agent Brand at the Palace of the Corpse looking at the carving of Colossus destroying the Breakworld. Agent Brand and Beast go to look at the weapon that the Breakworld has pointing at the Earth. Wolverine and Armor go to look for Colossus and Kitty. Since Cyclops has no powers and Emma Frost is unstable, they go to rendezvous with Agent Brand's men who are in the field dealing with Kruun’s soldiers. We shift to Colossus and Kitty getting ready for bed. Colossus comments how they brought him back from the dead. That they want him dead. That he will destroy them. That he will save them. By Rokk Krinn We hop over to the jail cell where Darwin and Professor Xavier are being held. The Shi’ar soldiers enter and grab Professor X and drag him to the wedding ceremony. Nightcrawler teleports over to Professor X. However, Vulcan blasts Nighcrawler and then grabs Professor X. Vulcan then says that Professor X is going to get what he deserves. I’m going to guess that Darwin will sacrifice his own life in order to save Professor X. And I think there might be a good chance that Professor X’s exposure to the Crystal may give him his mutant powers back. After all, a powerless Professor X isn’t all that interesting.   [read the full post]
