Comic Book Review: New Avengers #58
Original at Rokk's Comic Book Revolution
• Fri, Oct 30
By Jim(noreply@blogger.com) We cut to Dark Wolverine, Dark Hawkeye and Venom tracking the New Avengers through the sewer system. Dark Wolverine smells them. As he tells the others where the New Avengers are, Dark Wolverine is hit in the face by Captain America's shield. The Good: This issue contained more action than most of the Bendis scripted Avengers. The Dark Avengers really went after the New Avengers in this issue. 3. The homage to the classic X-Men sewer scene. The Dark Avengers take the X-Men's place in the new version of the X-Men breaking into the Hellfire Club. Overall: New Avengers #58 was better than the last few issues but still not a good comic. Not much happened in this issue. Pick up the Mighty Avengers instead of New Avengers. [read the full post]

By Jim(noreply@blogger.com) Magneto has appeared over Utopia. Professor X asks him what he wants. Magneto does not want to speak to him, he is there to talk to Scott (Cyclops) Summers. As a sign that he is not looking for a fight, Magneto removes his helmet that protects him from psychic attacks. He gives his helmet to Scott. Professor X confronts him that it is a trap. Magneto refuses to fight. He says that Professor X and his time has passed. Professor launches a psychic attack. Magneto holds his ground but does not respond. The professor and Scott have an argument. Scott tells him to stand down. It is very understandable that Professor X would not trust Magneto. They have known each other for years and it always seems like Magneto has opposed him at every turn. No matter how many times he... [read the full post]

Comic Book Review: Titans #18

By Jim(noreply@blogger.com) The Titans. Many years ago, Marv Wolfman and George Perez made this into one of the best books on the comics rack. It was always a top of the stack, first read book. Arguments were made as to whether the X-Men or Titans were better. Creative Team Writer: Bryan Q. Miller Artist: Angel Unzueta Inker: Wayne Faucher Commentary The Good: The art by Unzueta and Faucher was good in spots. They were very good at creating a dynamic flow from panel to panel. The action leads the eye through the story. The characters were far from static. The action burst off of the pages. Overall: An average superhero comicbook. I did not see anything new in this issue. Titans used to be cutting edge, exciting, original. This issue was none of them. Jim [read the full post]

By LaRevolucion44@aol.com (Rokk Krinn) This title continues to be a miss with me. This mini-series has failed to deliver what I was hoping. I really liked these characters when Morrison introduced them during Final Crisis. Unfortunately, Casey has done next to little with these characters in this mini-series.

I really liked these characters when Morrison introduced them during Final Crisis. Unfortunately, Casey has done next to little with these characters in this mini-series. 12. Uncanny X-Men #515 None of the characters have much of a developed personality. Any type of personality that Fraction has been able to cultivate for certain characters has been based more on the stereotype perception of that character rather than actual character work. There is also a total lack of chemistry between the various characters. [read the full post]

As Magik passes out, she tells Cannonball that Karma and Moonstar are almost dead. It was fun to see the old New Mutants reunite.

By noreply@blogger.com (Jim) This comic book has disappointed the Revolution. X-Men has traditionally been about the characters that we have read about for years. Claremont built up their personalities to the point that they seem like real people. Then when they are thrown into battles in the Savage Land, against giant robots, and fight superteams from other countries(or worlds), we care what happens to them. Into all the traditional comic storylines, Claremont added some very serious issues. The Beast approaches Angel. He wants to know why Angel is keeping secrets from him. Angel says he can't tell him. Angel flies away. As the process begins, the machine explodes. The High Evolutionary cries "Erik". The man comes out of the wreckage and says "No. Magneto..." [read the full post]

By LaRevolucion44@aol.com (Rokk Krinn) The character work is practically non-existent. All the characters are one-dimensional. And some of the characters do not even act like their established personalities. In particular Cyclops and Colossus. Fraction continues to show a lack of understanding of Colossus' character. In ear...

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) X-Men: Legacy #219 Then Carey pulled out a stunning twist by having Xavier hand Juggernaut a small decorative box and telling Juggernaut to open it after he killed Xavier. Juggernaut decides to open it first and sees that the small box is empty. Juggernaut then kills Xavier. Suddenly a giant Xavier opens the roof and peers down on Juggernaut. We then see that the Juggernaut is actually inside of a box that the giant Xavier is holding. Carey reveals that the meeting and this entire issue has taken place inside of Juggernaut’s mind. That Xavier approached the Juggernaut while he was sleeping and entered the Juggernaut’s mind. Mighty Avengers #20 The Winner: Mighty Avengers #20 [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn(noreply@blogger.com) The best aspect of Uncanny X-Men #504 is that Marvel is finally getting around to addressing the various dangling plotlines from the Messiah Complex. I was beginning to think that Marvel was never going to get around to addressing the fallout from the Messiah Complex here in the pages of Uncanny X-Men. I found it strange that Fraction would have Colossus regress back into a depressed and mopey state over Kitty’s death. I thought that the purpose of Brubaker having Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Colossus travelling to Europe together was to help Peter move past Kitty’s death. And I also got the impression that Brubaker had Colossus grieve and finally come to terms with Kitty’s death and ready to move on and rejoin his fellow X-Men. [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Thom Kallor) Previously...after the X-Men disbanded, Cyclops recruited a new team consisting of Wolf Cub, Dust, Blindfold, Rockslide, and Ink. Their first mission was to hunt down former members of the New Mutants who were recreating the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Wolf Cub died. "Cyclops" turned out to be Donald Pierce, a longtime enemy of the X-Men. Now the team has joined the real X-Men. In the present...Pierce is saying that it is an awful thing being a mutant. Dust says she is a Muslim and a mutant. Pierce is a bigot. She will not give him the satisfaction of hating herself because she is a mutant. Her questions have to do with being a X-Man. By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Synopsis: We begin with Wolverine, Nightwing and Karma beating the crap out of the Hellfire thugs. To be sure we get plenty of cheesy dialogue during this fight that would fit in perfectly in a 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Cyclops reminds Nightcrawler and Wolverine to bring back one of the thugs so they can question him. The last remaining Hellfire gang member left standing predictably pees his pants at the sight of Wolverine and Nightcrawler. (Oh, I have so never seen this in a comic book before. Top notch, Fraction.) Wolverine and Nightcrawler then capture the Hellfire thug. Wolverine attacks Empath. Empath quickly dispatches of Wolverine. Wolverine radios the other X-Men to tell them that Empath is with the Hellfire Club and that he... [read the full post]

By noreply@blogger.com (Rokk Krinn) Suddenly, Magneto busts onto the scene and saves me from this mind numbing dialogue and incredibly boring story up to this point. Magneto kicks ass on Colossus and then brings the Sentinels to life. Magneto orders the Sentinels to attack all the mutants. The Sentinels attack the X-Men, but strangely leave Magneto alone. The X-Men quickly dispatch the Sentinels and then lock horns with Magneto. Magneto kicks ass on the X-Men. Suddenly, Cannonball rockets onto the scene and blasts into Magneto. Magneto gets up and we see that he is wearing a special outfit designed to mimic his lost mutant powers. Magneto is pissed that his priceless piece of technology that defied biology itself is ruined. Comic Book Review: X-Force #1

• Sun, Feb 24
By Rokk Krinn Spinning out from the dramatic ending of Messiah Complex comes the newest incarnation of X-Force. And I actually like the purpose of this X-Force more than the preceding versions of this team. Due to the events of Messiah Complex, Cyclops has seen the need for a black ops team like X-Force to pull off the dirty missions that the X-Men cannot be connected with or handle at all. If nothing else, X-Force should supply us with tons of action and a relatively fast paced story. Let’s go ahead and do this review for X-Force #1. Scott says it is only a matter of time before whatever Risman stole from the SHIELD facility is used against mutants. Cyclops says that he wants Logan to lead X-Force and go after Risman and his Purifiers before they have a chance to do w... [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn We shift back to Rogue and Gambit. Rogue says that Mystique isn’t dead. Rogue mentions that when she was healed from the Strain 88, that all the minds she had absorbed over the years were also erased. That it was just Rogue. For about a minute. That now it is Rogue and Mystique in her head. Rogue says that she wish she had seen this sooner because then she never would have touched Mystique. Rogue then says that Mystique is the last person she ever wants to see and now Mystique is stuck in her head. Rogue then says that she needs to go away and be by herself and think. Rogue then leaves. Cable then teleports from the scene. As Cable is teleporting away, Bishop wakes up and screams “NO!” and fires several shots at Cable’s disappearing form. The shots wiz through wher... By Rokk Krinn We zip to Nightcrawler and Professor X in the Blackbird. Suddenly, a lightning storm appears and Professor X grabs his head. Professor X says that Storm’s mind suddenly went white and that he can’t get into her mind now. That all he hears is screaming. Beast and Bishop leave the dealer’s place. Beast is depressed that he has hit a total dead end. That he doesn’t know where to go from here. Bishop says he isn’t worried because in his future there are tons of mutants. Beast then comments that Bishop is from an alternate future like Marvel Girl and Cable. That Bishop’s very presence here makes it unlikely that it will ever…Beast pauses and then says “Wait. That could be it.” End of issue. [read the full post]
Comic Book Review: X-Men #201: Endangered Species

• Fri, Jul 27
By Rokk Krinn The Endangered Species back-up story has the Beast investigating Neverland. Beast notices that someone else has already searched all of the files and compute databases. Beast imagines that it must have been the colleague that High Evolutionary spoke about. This person seems one step ahead of Beast. And what is up with Carey’s Colossus? Colossus acts like he is from outer space rather than from Russia. Colossus isn’t a Vulcan. And Colossus didn’t just get off the boat. He has been in America for quite some time. It is striking the difference of Whedon’s well developed Colossus and Carey’s one-dimensional dumb Colossus who acts like he just arrived on planet Earth from planet Vulcan. [read the full post]

By Rokk Krinn We hop over to the jail cell where Darwin and Professor Xavier are being held. The Shi’ar soldiers enter and grab Professor X and drag him to the wedding ceremony. Nightcrawler teleports over to Professor X. However, Vulcan blasts Nighcrawler and then grabs Professor X. Vulcan then says that Professor X is going to get what he deserves. I’m going to guess that Darwin will sacrifice his own life in order to save Professor X. And I think there might be a good chance that Professor X’s exposure to the Crystal may give him his mutant powers back. After all, a powerless Professor X isn’t all that interesting.
