They sure seem like a looong time ago to Marc Graser, apparently, because he suggests that Fox is dragging its feet in getting its valuable mutant brigade back in theaters. To my mind, after Brett Ratner's lurching, messy finale to the X-...

The issue includes some other moments with Colossus stumbling upon an old villain and Beast and Angel recruiting a potential X-Man, but that’s pretty much the whole issue.

Uncanny X-Men #503
Marvel Comics
Fraction, Brubaker, Land and Ponsor

Next the issue covers Empath and his rampage. While Scott and Emma play the dual role of tactician and communications center, Angel, Storm, Nightcrawler and Wolverine try to stop Empath. While this is going on Pixie has herself a breakout moment and some good interaction with Beast to boot.

It’s a good issue. There is a decent sized cast and the issue moves fast enough so that none of them really eat up too much scenery. The banter between Nightcrawler and Wolverine is assuming while the dialogue between Cannonball, Karma and Mirage is meaningful. Empath proved to be an interesting villain, but wasn’t explored very much.

Previously...after the X-Men disbanded, Cyclops recruited a new team consisting of Wolf Cub, Dust, Blindfold, Rockslide, and Ink. Their first mission was to hunt down former members of the New Mutants who were recreating the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Wolf Cub died. "Cyclops" turned out to be Donald Pierce, a longtime enemy of the X-Men. Now the team has joined the real X-Men.
In the present...Pierce is saying that it is an awful thing being a mutant. Dust says she is a Muslim and a mutant. Pierce is a bigot. She will not give him the satisfaction of hating herself because she is a mutant. Her questions have to do with being a X-Man.

X-Men Magneto Testament #2 REVIEW

X-Men Magneto Testament #2 of 5
Marvel Comics
Pak, Di Giandomenico & Hollingsworth

This is a story that is not a superhero tale. It’s not an origins story. It’s not anything like any other X-Men story I’ve ever read. It’s a historical account of how Nazi Germany turned its own citizens into the enemy. It took everything they had, beating them along the way, before running them out of their homes and eventually taking their lives. It follows one family in particular. A member of that family happens to become Magneto. Without that last sentence, this comic has nothing to do with the X-Men. It’s an excellent story documenting a horrifying and dark spot on mankind’s history. It’s a powerful story.

Uncanny X-Men #502
Marvel Comics
Fraction, Brubaker & Land

The X-Men fight the Hellfire Club. Along the way little floating bubbles show up above the various characters to give little introductions. This is a good thing to do in a comic. This sequence gives great interaction between Wolverine and Nightcrawler. They capture a Hellfire Club member.

Pixie ponders running away and has some interaction with Wolverine. Wolverine obviously has thing for taking in young X-Men girls. So while this seems like a good idea it feels a little old due to his relationships with Kitty, Jubilee, X-23 and Armor. I’m not saying it’s not okay, but I am saying it felt too familiar.

Synopsis: We begin with Wolverine, Nightwing and Karma beating the crap out of the Hellfire thugs. To be sure we get plenty of cheesy dialogue during this fight that would fit in perfectly in a 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Cyclops reminds Nightcrawler and Wolverine to bring back one of the thugs so they can question him. The last remaining Hellfire gang member left standing predictably pees his pants at the sight of Wolverine and Nightcrawler. (Oh, I have so never seen this in a comic book before. Top notch, Fraction.) Wolverine and Nightcrawler then capture the Hellfire thug.
Wolverine attacks Empath. Empath quickly dispatches of Wolverine. Wolverine radios the other X-Men to tell them that Empath is with the Hellfire Club and that he...

Secret Invasion X-Men #2 of 4
Marvel Comics
Carey & Nord

Well, the X-Men appear to be able to handle the Skrulls and even the Super Skrulls so what’s left? Well this issue doesn’t exactly show us how the Skrulls are prepared to deal with the X-Men, but there are a couple of interesting plot turns that can probably make this thing interesting. Otherwise I’d say this is a rout.

The Skrulls lay out their next step, which is to trap the X-Men into coming to them. Almost on queue we see Cyclops explaining the X-Men’s plan to the mutants. The big obstacle with the pending battle is that the Skrulls are blocking telepaths.

So, Uncanny X-Men #500 wins the Sequential Methadone Award marking the very first time that The Revolution has given this award to Uncanny X-Men. And considering that I am a lifelong Uncanny X-Men fan, I am surprised that I am actually giving this issue such an ignominious award.

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Rating: 5/10 Following the departure of long-time writer Robert Kirkman, issue 94 sees the comic-book debut of Heroes writer Aron E. Coleite, joined by Mark Brooks on art. So, is this a good jumping on point for new and sceptical readers?

X-Men: Divided We Stand #1 of 2
Marvel Comics
Carey, Peterson, Ponsor, Kyle, Yost, Takeda, Young, Beaulieu, Yost, LaFuente, Fraction & McKelvie

Lastly, Nightcrawler confronts the one who nearly killed him, Scalphunter. This story is good for a couple of reasons. One, it really gives deep insight into Nightcrawler’s character. We even get the aspects of his spirituality which isn’t always presented with the character. Secondly, we see that not all the X-Men are lost in their purpose. Lastly, we see that the villains of the Messiah Complex aren’t exactly prospering since the war ended either.

We shift back to Rogue and Gambit. Rogue says that Mystique isn’t dead. Rogue mentions that when she was healed from the Strain 88, that all the minds she had absorbed over the years were also erased. That it was just Rogue. For about a minute. That now it is Rogue and Mystique in her head. Rogue says that she wish she had seen this sooner because then she never would have touched Mystique. Rogue then says that Mystique is the last person she ever wants to see and now Mystique is stuck in her head. Rogue then says that she needs to go away and be by herself and think. Rogue then leaves.

Cable then teleports from the scene. As Cable is teleporting away, Bishop wakes up and screams “NO!” and fires several shots at Cable’s disappearing form. The shots wiz through wher...

Ed Brubaker wants her on Uncanny X-Men? Easy - “It didn’t work out.” Claremont has them say IN THE COMIC that they are unsure if it will work - so really, not a big deal, and certainly not Claremont trying to screw with other writers. If Claremont had some pattern of trying to hurt other writers,...

We zip to Nightcrawler and Professor X in the Blackbird. Suddenly, a lightning storm appears and Professor X grabs his head. Professor X says that Storm’s mind suddenly went white and that he can’t get into her mind now. That all he hears is screaming.

Beast and Bishop leave the dealer’s place. Beast is depressed that he has hit a total dead end. That he doesn’t know where to go from here. Bishop says he isn’t worried because in his future there are tons of mutants. Beast then comments that Bishop is from an alternate future like Marvel Girl and Cable. That Bishop’s very presence here makes it unlikely that it will ever…Beast pauses and then says “Wait. That could be it.” End of issue.

And what is up with Carey’s Colossus? Colossus acts like he is from outer space rather than from Russia. Colossus isn’t a Vulcan. And Colossus didn’t just get off the boat. He has been in America for quite some time. It is striking the difference of Whedon’s well developed Colossus and Carey’s one-dimensional dumb Colossus who acts like he just arrived on planet Earth from planet Vulcan.

Overall: There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Carey’s X-Men is the weakest of all the X-titles that Marvel publishes. David’s X-Factor is the best with some of the best character work, dialogue and subtle plotlines currently on the market. Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men is next with excellent character work, good chemistry and quality action. Then comes Br...

We hop over to the jail cell where Darwin and Professor Xavier are being held. The Shi’ar soldiers enter and grab Professor X and drag him to the wedding ceremony.

Nightcrawler teleports over to Professor X. However, Vulcan blasts Nighcrawler and then grabs Professor X. Vulcan then says that Professor X is going to get what he deserves.

I’m going to guess that Darwin will sacrifice his own life in order to save Professor X. And I think there might be a good chance that Professor X’s exposure to the Crystal may give him his mutant powers back. After all, a powerless Professor X isn’t all that interesting.
